Wii Homebrew: MPlayerWii - Image 1

Wiibrew developer fcorbier has released a new version of MPlayerWii. If you missed out on the program's previous releases, it's a native port of the popular MPlayer program for the Wii. Now on version 0.05, the program has a lot of great new features, with particular emphasis given to the USB functions.

Some of the more notable changes you'll find in this version are added file folders support, faster USB reading speed, USB read-ahead, and video scaling using the nunchuk. Here's a full list of what's new in this version:

v0.05
  • added file folders support
  • added fix for PAL widescreen users (set the correct setting in mplayerwii.conf)
  • much faster USB reading speed (huge thanks to rodries)
v0.04
  • mount/unmount the SD card and/or USB drive so you can swap them out without reloading MPlayerWii
  • added USB read-ahead cache
  • added preliminary samba network share support
  • fixed startup crash when a usblan or usb keyboard is attached
  • added network streaming cache
  • added video scaling with the nunchuk (use joystick to move, Z button to stretch and C to reset)
  • added configuration file (put in the SD root folder)
  • new ascii logo by sensah

ok it worked.. sort of

I was able to watch an avi from a usb jumpdrive. It opens up pretty smoothly. Played fine for about 3 minutes then it jump back to text screen and my wii is frozen until I unplug the power cable. Tried again with a different avi similar thing happened. I haven't yet tested if the same avi works well in the sd card but since my sd card is pretty small it might not fit after I stuffed it with so many Fret On Fire songs +P Will do another round of test tonight using the same avi file and may be a smaller movie.
