Movie buffs reveal next-gen console midterm grades |

Unforgiving critics themselves, entertainment media mogul Entertainment Weekly took a step back to review their impressions of today's next-generation consoles: the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3. And it appears that they were no more excited for any of the consoles than they were the first time around.
The Xbox 360 hasn't changed in grade at all, with their midterm impressions not changing from their first encounter with the console. They leave the grade at A- in anticipation of a price cut this year, although they do agree that the Wii may take the throne soon. They note that a strong game lineup and a good online network will keep the Xbox 360 as "the console to beat," although it must be fair to point out that it just celebrated its first anniversary while the other two are still starting out.
The Nintendo Wii, according to Entertainment Weekly, is the probably the biggest disappointment to them - dropping from a high B+ to a low B- - after a drought of really good games had the console giving off the first signs of "Wii-nnuii." The lackluster lineup of titles has outweighed the console's growing sales numbers and the lack of truly online games tip the balance against the Wii's favor. Even one of Nintendo's big three titles is enough to bring their Wii-nthusiasm back, but as they say, "no one's likely to care."
The PlayStation 3 is a technological marvel to the movie critics, especially because they are fans of the high-definition movie experience. The HDMI and the Blu-Ray DVD experience is one thing to behold in the CELL-powered console, something that even the Xbox 360 Elite lacked without a packaged HD-DVD add-on.
The game lineup for the PlayStation 3 isn't any more varied than the Wii, and Sony's lack of a "bold executive decision" to slash prices left the reviewers no choice other than to dip the grade. But just in case Sony does drop the price just once before Christmas, they're temporarily notching the score at a B- from their first impression of a B.

Wtf?!
Those movie industry jerks know nothing about concoles..I own all three and I favor the PS3 over everything else..Xbox is great...except all it has are shooter titles...
Wii is fine but very lacking in Games [All I'm using my Wii for is Virtual Console titles...I mean I own 6 games on the Wii..only 6!]
PS3 has it all...Bluray movies [they kick Azz!] Awesome Graphics and games that are fun to play..even though I will admit the Sixaxis motion sensors are a little meh...that's just me..
Still, I give the PS3 an A+ for what it's worth.
The Wii an A and the Xbox 360 an A-...remember that's just me so don't go hating me Xbox fan boys - remember I own one of each system so technically I'm one of you too!

there are people buying a system with a 33% failure rate percentage for christ sake and they are happy that should it ever break at any moment, they will have to part from it for 4 days until it returns to them.
so you buy your newest game today, start playing it online with excitment a little more than the usual, and suddenly the system fails and you have to part from it and your newly purchased game for 4 days if not more
why would anyone want to buy such a continous headache ??
the Catastrophy is that there are people who are defending a company that rushed a defected product into the market.
Entertainment weekly are doing there job to advertize for microsoft and the 360,dont blame them...they are paid for it
blame the idiots who go out to buy a system that can break at any moment, with 1 billion dollar reserved for repairing just imagine how many 360,s have broken and how many will Break !!!
this also suugest that the problem is concerned with multiple hardware issues [as moore said byhimself],incl uding the GPU,CPU and motherboard
meaning that MS found its self unable to solve the problem since it consist the entire architicture of the 360 system and the GPU "Xenos" which is an untested prototype not tested for long-term reliability thus it overheats causing the meltdown and complete system failure
but i guess it doesnt matter.....people will always side with their religion
even if they were foolish enough not to realize that they never chose that religion.....they were just born with it ,forced with it,they never had a choice
at least when buying a multi-media system, you have a choice.....

my 360 has only broken once.
And I won't sell it...because I have games that I love.
you fanboy need to just calm down.
The ps3 will get better games soon.
But no reason to hate on the 360.
Sure it might have a high failure rate but so did the ps2.

Almost unanimously voted for by both forum and staff members, Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) became the Blu-ray player to own soon after its release last November. Since then, the popular game machine has received numerous updates, all accessible through the machine's built-in Internet ports, to provide increased stability and features. Most recently, Sony added DVD upconversion to the list of features, and overnight the PS3 became one of the top DVD players on the market as well.
Like most players, there were some initial issues, but the flexible nature of the PS3 hardware meant quick fixes for Blu-ray enthusiasts. BD-Java updates were also distributed quickly, usually before the title utilizing those new features ever hit store shelves. The inclusion of Dolby TrueHD and upgrade to 24p video output means that the console is equally applicable to both the casual movie watcher and dedicated home theater enthusiast.
The strength of the player comes from its awesome processing power. This means that upcoming advances like DTS Master Audio and BD-Java Picture-in-Picture (PIP) are not totally out of the question (though no promises to their addition have been made). Still, the future looks very bright for the PS3 as a Blu-ray player. With an expected price drop for the holiday season, this will not only be the best Blu-ray player available, but also remain one of the cheapest.

This is why they add online features and games lineup to their equation....not just straight movie playback.
Because then the PS3 would have to go first then 360 and they shouldn't even mention wii since it really doesn't play movies...even DVDs...
Why do they mention Blu-ray you ask ? Well, many, many, many people see it as the only reason to get a PS3....as does entertainment weekly....without it their score would have been a C or C+ max.

BTW, a simple Google search for "xbox 360 design flaw" will reveal why the 360 defect rate is so high, and it's not because "the GPU "Xenos" which is an untested prototype not tested for long-term reliability thus it overheats causing the meltdown and complete system failure"
Try putting at least a little effort into your comments, especially if you're going to try to make it sound like you know what you're talking about when you really don't, something you fail at miserably
