Don't you just love charts? While video game sales charts are the norm almost every month (or every week), here's something new for a change. Rentrak and Home Video Essentials have published their video game rental chart, tracking the top 10 games that were rented out for 2008. Check it out:

Notice any trends? Let's check the facts, shall we? As you can see, Grand Theft Auto 4 is at the top of the list - that may or may not be a good thing, depending on how you look at it.

Meanwhile, on the platform scale, Microsoft's Xbox 360 dominates the Top 10 with seven titles on the list. It's also quite bothersome (or actually, maybe enlightening for some) to see how most of the games on the list are rated M. Also note that some titles that were released in 2007 have also made it to the 2008 chart.

i work at blockbuster, and that would be the first on my list of most rented games for 2 reasons. a. it f-in rocks and has alot of replay value, and b. on street date i think my store got 30 copies, then 10 more the next week as a backup. that's pretty impressive considering my #2 guess for highest rentals, madden 09, only had about 10 copies. dunno if it was a blockbuster specific deal but that was the most of any game that we've ever had. more than some movies when they street. to giv u an idea with movies, we usually have 100-200 of a big title and 1-20 of "small" or indy/disney/etc movies. yet i am still to this day @ 1 copy each of left 4 dead, mirrors edge, dead space, (insert game title you've been trying to rent for the past 4 weeks here). kinda sad, i think people shouldnt have to swim thru a sea of mainstream games b4 they try something unique *ahem* or in other words vg companies need to stop being *****s and allow rental companies to stock more copies. disney does that and the only reason they survive is bc parents dont mind paying 25 dollars for a dvd to shut their kid up for an hour bc our one copy of tinkerbell is checked out.
