Moore: Wii60 Penetration Could Be Up To 40%

How's this quote from Microsoft's Peter Moore; “Dual platform ownership of Xbox 360 and Wii could be as high as 40% depending on what territory we are talking about. The influence of the Wii-60 movement seems to be growing enormously.” Personally I got a little tired of the whole Wii60 "movement" about 10 minutes after the phrase was coined, specifically when fanboys began to use it as a weapon, I'm also not sure about where Peter's getting his numbers. There's also the little fact that the Regginator has openly come out to essentially say "we won't be playing second fiddle thanks" and good on Ninty I say.

Still, Moore goes on to heap even more praise on the house that Mario built, adding, “I have been on the record many times talking about my admiration for Nintendo and the innovation that Wii brings. I am not even sure Nintendo fully understands what it has on its hands”. I suppose there's no harm in it, but it just comes across like he's trying a little to hard to butter up Nintendo fans for an Xbox 360 purchase. So is it working?

My reservations aside, it seems as though Moore's comments on the Wii60 movement taking off might end up being true, if not because of the PS3's high price point, simply because there will be so few of them available at launch, the end result being that even many of those who do want one will leave stores empty handed... or with a Wii in tow. That's definitely the case with me, I do want a PS3, but it's unlikely I'll be able to get one at launch, whether it's due to financial constraints or hardware availability, the end result will be the same. It's pretty likely I'll end up getting Gears of War, a Wii, an extra Wiimote and Zelda. Oh Peter, you're so crazy!

Too funny, considering is that not what Microsoft's and Nintendo's marketshare is this generation?

You mean to say, that if Microsoft and Nintendo can hold on to their minority share they have this as something to be happy about.

Sad sad day for Microsoft fans, but than again, having a red ring of death, and console so hot you can fry egg on it, makes everyday a sad day.

Too Xbots, having the weaker console this time must suck!

"Too funny, considering is that not what Microsoft's and Nintendo's market share is this generation?"

Out of all the fanboy jargon I think there is a point there.

The image above shows that point. Even with the Dreamcast being added in Sony dominated. They have over 70% of the console market right now!(of the current gen)

Moore knows that has to change! Sony took heavy advantage of it's market share. In a NextGen.biz podcast it was revealed that even the press suffered. The industry can't grow without competition. We really need the market to even out this generation. Enter Wii60!

Did you mind having a weaker system last time? Did it bug the hell out of you that you had inferior graphics?

No. You still played games on the PS2 and enjoyed them. Did the PS2 sell horribly because it had worse graphics? No, it outsold everything.

Case in point, graphics are no bearing on what sells well, and it doesn't matter, as the games look virtually the same between the 360 and PS3. Feasable difference? Yes, but barely, and who cares?

That said, I can't stand Peter Moore sometimes. He talks so much out of his arse that I think he's putting his arms down his pants and walking upside down.

That was a stretch, I hoped it worked out well.

Thank you Christopher C. You are like a savior to this godforsaken "newsite" and I mean that in earnest. You write with dash of professionalism , a hint of expertise, and no sign of bias.

If only the others could follow suit.

OK, read the original article, and it says, he expects 40 percent of 360 owners to buy a Wii, and not that both 360 and Wii will get 40 percent of the market.

Christopher C., you might want to make that article a bit more clear to match the original article.

Sorry for my earlier post. Enjoy your Wii60. :)

sounds liek a great idea to me.. rather have that than paying money for ***** i'm not going to use.. i don't want blue-ray, i don't want motion sensitive dual shock (it was fine how it was)

i want what i have with the 360, becuase it had made me love it so much that i want to highten my experience by buying ***** like the camera and all that.. with ps2 i didn't want the eyetoy or anything.. the system was made to be a broad experience like the 360 has become

the wii however will be fun too, it looks fun...

the ps3 has nothing special to offer... maybe it is more powerful than the 360.. but what does that do when you have no good games... not a single game has been announced for that system that has even came close to making me want it.. actualy there was one.. assasins creed... but guess what i can get it for 360 now...

my life is great

wii60 - if son;y wins marketshare good for them.. they lost heart this time around though

i have to disagree with you v strongly on this. Your arguement is so very very wrong.

If you look at the games that are currently on the xbox360 almost 1 year after its release you have to agree that there are perhaps a handful of titles that could be called next gen ...and imo call of duty is the only one . developer support for the 360 has been very slwo in coming and the best games on the system are just ports that are available on the ps3 and the pc ( call of duty , oblivion, etc) .

THere is one glaring problem facing the 360 today and that is simply that it has not pernetrated japan . That whole market is home to the best developers in the world. add to this the fact that the ps3 is better , well supported , comes with a brand people know and game series they love ( metal gear. final fantasy, devil may cry, res evil... the list goes on and on and on ).... compared to the noteworthy xbox franchises.... which u can count on one hand .... its a clear cut case . sure u will have fun times on the 360 but ultimately just like on the xbox you will be waiting months at a times for a real worthwhile game .

It's a shame that Microsoft are counting on Nintendo to help them sell the Xbox360. Microsoft know like everyone, i hope, that alone he can't beat Sony.

In the end, I'm sure Microsoft will come last but I'm really happy they are here! Because without them there will be no competition and in result no good product from other companies.

like bugs bunny said - if you cant bet em' join em'. They know they cant beat the wii. Sony doesnt care. Nintendo is playing modest cause they know they're gonna make history.

I think 40 percent might be right - thats about how many people will be disappointed in the 360 and be forced to buy a wii. The other 60 percent are the gays. lol jk jk jk!

# PS3 and WiiGuest 2006-09-30 13:23
I'll get PS3 and Wii.

But it's likely that if some people buy two consoles, it will be PS3 or X360, and Wii.

Thats why microsoft should buy nintendo and they will make an affordable console with the best graphics, gameplay, and finally mario and halo will unite like they should. It'll be like when Lucky's and Albertsons got married.
