Moore on Nintendo Wii and 360's Microsoft's interactive entertainment business VP">Peter Moore is about to leave Microsoft for EA Sports but before he do that, he has still a couple of reminders left both for his company and the Xbox 360 community. His latest interview with online site Gamasutra focused on the need for Microsoft to broaden the appeal of its console.

According to Moore, it is already a given that hardcore gamers will love the Xbox 360 no matter what, given video game titles such as Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, 360). He added that Microsoft has been doing a lot of things to reach into the broader market but certain things have to be put into consideration.

For one, he mentioned that the Xbox 360's controller might be too complicated for a non-game. He explained, "Typically, when you pass a controller to someone who's not a gamer, they don't even want to touch it, because look at all those buttons and pads and sticks and triggers. The thing's damn complicated".

Quite interestingly, he added that Nintendo is quite doing the right thing with its innovative yet simple controller that can be used as easy as a TV remote. "I think Nintendo is doing a phenomenal job in providing that fun, unexpected experience, to their credit," Peter Moore added.

» And

I believe that if you find the 360 controller to complicated you should go back to your Atari. C'mon the 360 controller isint all that different than the Xbox controller. The Wii is gay.

I think the controllers pretty dam good and simpler than the original xbox controller

» actually

xbox, 360, ps2, ps3, gamecube all have complicated controllers that i cannot play. I dont own any of them. Wii shooters are really complicated, but all wii sports are easy.

by Blah - 2007-07-20 11:40
» Not complicated

Only controller I have ever found complicated was Gamecubes.....

by Someone_PR - 2007-07-20 11:48
» the 360 is a good controller...

but the wii success is for the controller... is more than obvious that isn't for their system... and the wii catch the casual gamers and thats he want to say... the ones isn't a normal gamer don't know what button do what and where is what... anyway... at least something wise of him... not another crappy batch

» Um

» Hmm

Yes i do think xbox need to get different games to compete but first i suggest if they fix there problems on the xbox, There sales has dropped to 60% from this site: http://www.informationweek.com/hardware/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201200157&cid=RSSfeed_TechWeb

Not only that it seems they haven't made a dime in the gaming industry for the 6 years in. from this site,

http://www.gamepro.com/microsoft/xbox360/games/features/124008.shtml

It seems to me that MS is in a heap of trouble. Fix the console problems than the games, or try the other way around.

He would say things about the company since he can't get fired anymore. I bet he would said lots of things about the company but he did work there.

» And?

"Not only that it seems they haven't made a dime in the gaming industry for the 6 years in. from this site"

And why would you care?

From the time they announced the XBox, MS have spoken about a 20 year plan for the console market, so 6 years is really nothing. The investments they've made, such as the billions to setup and develope XBox Live, is not something you do for a few generations in the market. This is a long term plan (same for Sony and Nintendo).

"It seems to me that MS is in a heap of trouble."

They seem fine to me.

» Too Bulky

The 360 controller is just too fat,

now that moore is out hes going to start talking $h!t about Microsoft too, this is just the beginning, "oh now that I don't work there anymore there is a small detail with the control that I didn't see before"

by dylantalon - 2007-07-21 00:25
» dead box fan fools

look at all the dead box fan fools getting upset that their betrayer peter moore spoke ill of their failing system. peter moore is an idiot, he drove sega dreamcast into the ground and dead box 360 will be going down too. he sees the system(microsof t games) failing and he wants to get out before the ship has sunk. he must be having deja vu since the dreamcast was white and the xbox 360 is white. nintendo wii is white and will also fail too, cause the nintendo wii is for casual gamers and they dont buy more than 2 or 4 games at most. hardcore gamers buy games. i have all the systems, i have like 40 games for ps2, 20 games for xbox, 6 games for 3 dead box 360, all on the ring of death and waiting to buy an elite. 8 games for ps3, 2 games for nintendo wii. ps3 is the future and the future is ps3.

by XTreme - 2007-07-21 01:24
» How old are you?

12? 13 years old?

I guess Ken Kutaragi (you know, the "Father of the Playstation") left Sony because he wanted to get out before the ship has sunk there too, right?

Idiot kid.

» PETER MOORE SAID THIS LAST YEAR!

Some of your comments here is rather amusing. The fact is, Peter Moore has said this before, leading to speculation about a new controller (or control method) for the 360.

Eg;

Moore Shows More Love for Nintendo's Wii:

http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=13001

quote: '...he agreed that video game controllers today have generally become too complex.

"...Shoulder buttons, triggers, analog sticks, d-pads, I mean, there's a lot going on there when you compare it to the old Atari 2600 button-and-stick, which everybody could pick up and have some fun with... Clearly, I think the Wii is trying to get back to those days," he explained.

Moore went on to talk about his 14-year-old daughter who finds that traditional controllers like the Xbox 360 controller are overly complicated. "... she's frustrated because of the button configurations and the use of triggers; she just doesn't quite get it," Moore said.'

This is from June 2006, that's right, JUNE 2006! That's over a YEAR ago.

So, far from Peter Moore changing his tune since leaving MS as some of you claim, he is actually saying exactly what he said when he was with MS, which is, for non-gamers and inexperienced gamers, traditional console controllers (360 and PS3) are too complicated and that the Wii controller is a step in the right direction for those gamers.

by na2rul - 2007-07-21 05:09
» this is irelevant but...

.....the 360 controller sucks. The top shoulder(LB,RB?) buttons are not ergonomically placed for the index finger to reach although it isnt difficult......

The 2 analogs are a lil clicky wen centerd.

The D-pad is STILL wobbly.

And yes i DONT have xbox

lolzzzz.... this guy had 2 go chek

by steve - 2007-07-21 07:59
» hhmm...

i thought the gamecube had the least complex controller of last gen. becuase all the buttons were mostly diffrent colors and shapes. other then X and Y (which i still today have to look down to see which is which .) i think the old xbox controller sucked, the L and R buttons sucked for when you had to shoot a gun fast.
