Miyamoto's Super Mario Bros. wins retro game award at TGS 2007

With the first day of the Tokyo Game Show open to the public, an unexpected special guest was able to steal the show amidst all the other big names in the gaming industry. Nintendo bigwig Shigeru Miyamoto was given the limelight when he was presented the award for the best retro game creator during the event.

With the first ever Super Mario Bros. game toppling other famous retro entries like Square Enix's Dragon Quest series, Miyamoto proved to everyone that his gaming empire wasn't out of the running just yet. To top off his victory, the hosts even made him play through the first stage of the game which he, of course, pulled off with gracious aplomb.

Perhaps this is a sign that Nintendo still has a final card hidden up their sleeve. However, we can only sit back and wait for Miyamoto to surprise gamers with his next masterpiece. Until then why not take a look at the video posted by SeanOrange of the opening scenes of the TGS 2007.
