Miyamoto Talks About the Dual Shock 3 |
Listed in: PS3, Wii Tags: DualShock, GameCube, Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto, Wiimote
Ó
The Edmonton Sun had an interview with Miyamoto at E3. One of the questions they asked was about the Dual Shock 3. More specifically, it was about the Dual Shock 3's motion sensing capability. What did Miyamoto have to say?"It's kind of what always seems to happen. But the fact that they looked at what we were doing and decided it was a good path is kind of flattering, it kind of reinforces in our minds that we're doing the right thing. What they've done is just take your standard controller and add in this motion-sensing device that's similar to what we did back on the Game Boy Color many years ago. Maybe if they were to completely copy and go with a remote and a nunchuk and two motion sensors, I might be a little more concerned. But I don't think they're anywhere close to that."
Like Satoru Iwata, he is also taking it with an "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery" type of mindset. Obviously, unlike the WiiMote, the Dual Shock 3 is no more appealing to non-gamers than the Dual Shock 2. That's also something he brought up with names. He thinks Wii is more appealing to non-gamers because it doesn't sound like a game system. It's not a "PlayStation" or a "GameCube." He also had something interesting to say about learning curves. He thinks that the WiiMote will have a deeper learning curve for regular gamers than non-gamers because we have to re-learn our controls. When you think about it, he's right! However, I'm ready for the challenge!

as #1 said, they take something good and make it better or expand on it... why not take advantage of something promising? also, if motion sensing is the next step in gaming trends then sony would have been fools to forego it when they had the chance to add it to ps3.

When will get over the fact that they were not the first ones with the motion-sensing capable controller?
Microsoft AND Sony had used the technology BEFORE nintendo even thought about it...
Morons. Nintendo is jealous of the 360 and PS3... and so they should be.

That would be kinda strange because there is no "shock" anymore...

They already have. Nintendo hasn't said "We're the first with a motion-sensing controller." They ARE, however, the first company to have the motion-sensing controller as a STANDARD, and in effect introduce it to mainstream gaming. There's a reason why the old motion-sensor controllers aren't as well known as Nintendo's...
The same goes for rumble and analog sticks. Sure, the technology existed before, but Nintendo applied it to mainstream gaming first.

These Days Sony and Microsoft set the trends...
And yes.. Nintendo implied that Sony Copied 'their' idea...
I used to like Nintendo back in the pre-gamecube days...they suck something bad now...

And about copying. Well, that happens and what I've noticed is that the first person to invent something is praised and the first to copy it is ridiculed, yet the third on out is seen as just doing what's 'standard' or 'competition'.
Like, if I invented a poptart filling machine people might love it. But then Bob comes out with one a few months later, he'll be seen as someone who copied me, but then if Jeff comes out after Bob with his version then it's all just 'friendly competition' and it becomes standard and accepted that different brands use the same idea.
I think it's going to take till Microsoft comes out with their tilt/motion-sensitive controller for everyone to accept it as standard. Poor Sony will just be seen as imitators till then.
Then, when the Nintendo Us, Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 comes out with all the controllers like that, no one will care.

When you think about it this is the last generating where graphics will really be matter. When you look at PS3 and 360 games you can easily see that by the end of this generation graphics will have done all they can do for game play. Sony and Nintendo are doing the right things by changing the way we play games. That is what the next generation will be about.
When you think about it having your movements translated into a game it is one step closer to virtual reality! If the DS can be so small and cheap some one can make a visor that can easily display the same kind of graphics it can and give it a motion sensor. Then games will be reborn and as the tech gets cheaper people will focus on graphics again! If the DS can be that faster growing game system in the world the the right mixture of graphics and innovative game play can do anything!

In real words he is saying to forget the people who bought the gamecube because it was a dissapointment.(Gamecube was good for a while do don't get me wrong)
And introduce a new controller no 1 will think it was nintendo that was behind it.Lol

as far as developers matter, they can care less who made a profit, because sales is all that matter to 3rd partys care about.
Also
Shipped=Sold(to retailers, but the company took in money from the buying retailer)

This whole controller agrument is apples to oranges. 2 totally diffrent ways of going about it. So sony hasnt mastered it yet, it would still be solid with out it. If thats all the wii has to offer, then thats kinda lame. Seems like they perfected a nice gimmick to me. It'll be fun for a week. maybe 2 if you're on drugs.

1, you hold the DS3 like a standard controller, similar to a steering wheel (PS3 racing games will kick ass while Wii's racing games won't)
2, The Wiimote can detect itself in a 3D environment. Not only can it detect it's angle like the DS3, it can also pinpoint it's X,Y,Z coordinates.
to number 18: I don't think you realize this but this has a lot to do with the PS3, first of all, Nintendo wanted to change video games, the DS3 prooves that they have succeded in that.

Sony and Microsoft have more to offer... and are offering. Instead of waving my hands around i'd rather top-quality gameplay with a story worth playing... and mario just doesnt cut it.
Not to mention something 'worth' looking at on my HDTV.. oh wait that's right, the Wii is a gamecube 1.2.
