Missouri Police: An adult and playing Animal Crossing? Something's wrong with you!

"There is no reason an adult should have this game," were the ominous words of Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force officer, Andy Anderson, referring to... wait for it... Animal Crossing: City Folk. For real? Yeah, as real as the name Andy Anderson is.

According to Anderson, it's games like this that make kids more vulnerable to sexual predators. Because of the structure of the game where your character needs to talk to other gamers, build rapport and relationships, and exchange letters, gifts and favors in order to advance to the next level.

If you're an adult and playing Animal Crossing, then you're most probably doing it for the wrong reason - this is the line of logic that Anderson follows with this kind of reasoning. The solution, he says (apart from adults NOT playing this game) is to have the parents pay extra attention to the games their kids play.

"The equipment is real expensive and we cannot afford to buy all of the systems and do not have the resources either to examine all of the possibilities," Anderson said.

Apart from Animal Crossing, other games that are potentially pedo-heaven would be those taht allow instant messaging or voice-over IP -- practically a whole slew of other games out there, then.

Roger that.

» haha what

My parents play Animal Crossing pretty much every day, I've got something to worry about apparently.

Wow, that's pretty out there. I mean, yeah, I can see how it would enable people, but so would playing Pokemon online or pretty much any game. IMO, Animal Crossing holds a lot of value for all age ranges, I played the DS one forever....

» Wha?

What the hell? The freakin' commercial for the game is a couple of adult women playing the game. I'm 22 and I play this game, I don't play it online though. LIke a lot of you are saying, anything could be used for this manner, and on this game don't you have to add people before you can get talk to them? That's why Nintendo has the codes, the douches, people need to think ***** through before they go pointing fingers. Apparently he must've been thinking about doing it himself if he were to pull that random assumed generalization out of his anus.

Wow, what an idiot....

I'm 19 and I play Animal Crossing, too.

Does this make me a pedophile?

(please don't answer yes now.....)

Great, Jack Thompson could be jumping all over this sooner or later and its not even close to GTA.

» haha no the officer is just overkill

BD live is another thing Pedo's should look out to

Disney will be releasing cartoons like cinderella etc on BD with chat features.

and if mr officer on the article is right then, NO parent and or human above 17 should watch or use Disney kiddie cartoons with BD live.

» WTF?

I'm 37 and I play it!!! Well I must be a ped... I think not! I play it as my 5yo daughter has trouble with pointing the wiimote at the screen so I have to do those bits for her and its come to the fact that I play it more than she does. I havent played it enough to get online but even then I only have 1 friend on my Wii list and thats my sister.

I guess as it sounds like everyone here plays it that its actually a very relaxing game. No killing or gore. No stupid puzzles, its very basic but enjoyable at the same time.

Its like a kiddy version of PS3's home without the pedos.

I think if I ever see anyone that says they are a cop from Missouri then I ban them straight away. Thats the real pedos. the Missouri cops!

I think the cops just like to look everywhere else other than the obvious places for pedos. Try the local Missouri cop shop or the local church.

If you can get online and speak to anyone then a ped can do damage. How about banning the internet, thats the next stupid step the cops will suggest. Morons!

» Oh...

I was wondering why my Catholic priest wanted me to play this game so much.
