Microsoft to adapt Ninty's ways?

Yes, we love it! But maybe Wii got it right after all... - Image 1Nintendo must have obviously done something right if Microsoft is set to adapt its strategy for the Xbox 360. At least that's what Xbox Microsoft boss Peter Moore seemed to be hinting at when he said that they are looking into a change in strategy for their next-gen "to compete with the mainstream appeal of Nintendo's fun-focused Wii."

And that ain't the only intriguing statement from Moore:

It's actually not games. It's more experiential than that. And again, since the day I saw Iwata-san pull the Nunchuk controller out from under his podium a few years ago at TGS, I've always realized that was the right thing for Nintendo... to be successful in this next generation.

Experiential, indeed... Does this imply that Microsoft is busy prepping up some kind of new controller as well, that would essentially come at par with the unique Wii controllers? Hmmm... complete adaptation, indeed. Well if that really is the case, then it could probably do Microsoft a whole lot of good in the long run. After all, theirs is the only next-gen console that does not a motion-sensing controller. Not that it's affected the demand for it, but still.

Anyhow, this could mean that Nintendo has spawned a whole new next-gen trend, and they've obviously gotten a headstart already. Hmmm... maybe then this also means that we'll be seeing more of that exergaming that a lot of people have gotten so into.

» Good idea but KEEP Rumble and FEEDBACK at all costs.

As long as they keep RUMBLE and FORCED FEEDBACK, im all for anything new but I cant imagine playing a driving/Fighting game without Rumble/Feedback it would be crap..

So if Microsoft were to come up with a motion sensing controller thingy to go against Nintendo then they might be on to something. Personally i have no interest in flailing about in oversimplified motions to to play mini games but it seems a large majority of people do. If Microsoft put out something similar, maybe even something better for the 360 then it could seriously steal thunder from Nintendo and remove the ONE TRUE advantage to the Wii.

Think of it, if MS could market that they too have a motion controller IN ADDITION to High Def games and such, it was sink Nintendo. Of course it will take some time to get to market but if the Wii game drought goes until Christmas then the Wii will already be on shaky ground.

Now some might say, "yeah but any peripheral that MS puts out now will not be a standard with the console, it won't be integrated in EVERY game like the Wiimote is."

Whow cares? In fact if it's a peripheral that only some games are programed for then perhaps we will get the best of both worlds. Many Wii games are forced and clumsy with the Wiimote and it's obvious it was a controll scheme shoehorned into the game. Often the standard controller is preferred.

So if MS has only specific games that are geared toward the their version of the motion controller then it won't interfere with standard game like Halo 3.

It will also further demonstrate how piss poor the PS3's motion technology.

I'm sorry, but I buy consoles based on what games they have. Motion sensing may add a nice twist to gaming, but simply adding motion sensing to a game will not make it better. Wii got that part right, Sony so far has not.

There are no games on the PS3 that make me consider buying it, and I'm damn sure not going to spend $600 just to have a sixaxis.

The Wii does have a few games I like, but I wouldn't be spending $250 just because of the wiimote and nunchuck. I'd be spending $250 to play a good game that happens to have a new way to play it with motion sensing.

What I'm trying to say is: I hope MS isn't trying to market this as a gimmick alone, because I feel that'll backfire in the long run. If they really are trying to get a feel for market demand on another motion sensing controller, then they'd better have some good, original games in the mix...otherwise there would be no incentive for any other brand loyalist to buy a 360.

I KNEW IT!!! PETER MOORE IS THE HITLER OF VIDEOGAMES!!! look at that picture. He got his arse kicked in the first World War (sega saturn vs. Ps1). ANd now he is back with a vengeance in the 2nd World War. And he's off to a good start (just like Hitler). But dont worry the big boy (Playstation/The U.S.) will wipe that smug grin off his face shortly.

Author of the article is retarded...

They are ADOPTing Nintendo's ways, adapting to the changing face of video games.

» Sounds like the best idea ever.

The FPS genre of gaming is perfectly suited for the wii. You don't have to make crazy motions to play the games. I once thought fighting games would suck for wii but after playing dragonball and seeing what they are doing for mortal kombat, I have completely changed my mind. Gesture initiated moves in fighting games really does work. Fighting games are all about the timing AND button mashing. But not having to press (and I quote):

B BD D FD F FU U BU B triangle triangle circle circle square L R D U to do one super move is really a nice thing. Yes you can execute that pretty quickly and rub all the skin off you'r thumb, as we have all done for years, but it is nice to have something different for once. Moving The wiimote back and forward or some easy thing like that realy works for fighting games. I really thought it would suck ass but it just doesn't. I suppose SSX will be better also. Just to get max windup for a trick and control the steering, I had to use my nose to fine steer the analog stick (PS2 version). That was seriously a pain in the ass. Now its tilt the nunchuck and the analog if fine tune or wind up or whatever. Sounds great to me. Problem solved. Graphically wii sucks balls but the concept is something I wish the other console makers would have thought of. Seriously a FPS pn the 360 with a wii remote would be the sickest ***** ever.

» fanboy crap

Holy crap so Sony announces the SIXAXIS and every Microsoft and Nintendo fanboy comes out of the slums claiming Sony copied Nintendo on the whole motion thing. Now if Microsoft comes out with something similar its not copying? Whos kidding who here? They downplay the whole motion thing just like they did with 1080p and now you have 1080p(upscaled not native) on 360 and talks of motion sensing for their next console. Whos copying who here? By the way you guys up there bashing the SIXAXIS, have you even tried it? Motorstorm rocks with it and the control in FLOW is simply awesome. Plus you can turn it off if you dont like it (except flow) so you still have the best controller on the planet with the added option of motion sensing. Rumble is way overrated anyway. But perhaps youd rather hold your controller completely still in your lap so you can get of from the vibrations because youve never had a girlfriend.

lol you said rumble is overrated. denial must be a ***** huh? And they did steal the idea from Nintendo, the original PS3 controller had no tilt sensing until Sony heard what Ninty was doing and decided to half-ass it onto their own console. In fact, thats not even the only thing Sony stole. How about the guide button idea that they stole from Microsoft? Too bad they left out like 90% of the function on BOTH concepts. Sony sucks, deal with it.

» hmm

i like the 360, but i dont really like the idea of motion sensing for it for some reason... i think if MS wants to come out with something to get attention, they should try something more unique, rather than try to add something the other consoles already have. I also wonder how well motion sensing will be implemented into their games. and im also assuming that gamers will have to buy something new to add on to their consoles, but ps3 and wii come with their motion sensing tools out of the box. to me, it just doesnt seem like this idea will really spark sales or attention, or whatever they are trying to do... but just saying what i think.
