Microsoft: Get a Wiimote this Xmas...Huh?

Ó

WiimoteBy this point, a lot of us are probably trying to do our last-minute shopping. And to make things just a little easier, publications both on and off the net churn out a "Top 10" of their most highly-recommended goodies for purchase.

And speaking of "Top 10 " lists, we were scoping out a Microsoft site to figure what we'd be getting our significant others for the season, when we chanced upon their list.

Aside from the usuals - The Xbox 360's controller to name a few, we spotted this other item that didn't quite fit in...A Nintendo Wiimote. Yeah, yeah, it just doesn't feel right that they're advertising their rival's centerpiece, but as the ad says:

Why the Wii Remote without the Nintendo Wii? Because some clever hackers figure out how to get information out of it. The Wii Remote is actually a Bluetooth device that has an XYZ accelerometer in it. With some computing, one is able to figure out the tilt of the controller.

Cost: $53.67

Now, just to put things in better perspective, the clause on the site does say these products are ideal programmable presents to get your resident tech fan. Given that, it does connect to the fact we've been looking at all sorts of hacks that have so far allowed Nintendo's bluetooth wonder to control PC's. Chalk up another strange sales pitch...
