Homebrew - Menu Rebooter v1.0 - Image 1Well, this is a pleasant surprise. PSP homebrew developer Red Squirrel has released his first ever Wiibrew application.

Called Menu Rebooter, this program temporarily patches your Wii Menu to allow you to launch backups. The program is based off (and compatible with) Wiigator's Backup Launcher v0.3 Gamma. It's similar to waninkoko's MenuPatcher.

Here's the read me from Red Squirrel (pay attention now - this isn't included in the download archive, unless you can read Italian):

Note:
  • In the package you will find program .DOL, a .WAD channel and the APPS folder for  Homebrew Channel: so you can choose your favourite way to use it
What's it?
  • Menu Rebooter is a tool born from Backup Launcher v0.3gamma sources that will patch your Nintendo Wii's menu (only temporarily!) to allow you to launch backups directly from official Disc Channel, like original games!
Is it standing and dangerous patch?
  • No, to cancel its effect you have only to shutdown or reboot your console: so nothing of standing or dangerous!
What do we gain with a "patched" menu?
  • Essentially three things:
  1. Possibility to launch backup discs in your Wii directly from official Disc Channel, like original games!
  2. Possibility to copy on SD all saves, those protected too! (ex. Mario Kart save, ecc...)
  3. Region Free for all discs!
So is it similar to Waninkoko's Menu Patcher?
  • Yes, it is the same thing in practice. But it does not require Waninkoko's cIOS, it works directly with WiGator Backup Launcher v0.3gamma one!
In channel version TV screen flash green for some seconds... is it normal?
  • Yes, quiet, it is a bug caused by the channel, but absolutely nothing of dangerous for your TV or Wii.
There is no logo or image in channel version... why?
  • In this way WAD file is only 300Kb... so it will take less space in your Wii memory.
  • More space to use for other games or channels :D
Could I see where you modify Backup Launcher v0.3gamma sources?
  • Of course, I attached to package the modified sources respecting GPL license of the project.
  • Download by yourself BL v0.3gamma sources and then overwrite "source" folder with that contained in the package.

» Sounds good.

When are we going to have a nice simple tool to backup the disks instead of needing cIOS?

» Yeah

Or even better, a patch that's just not temporary, but that remains and allow us to shut down the wii without having to re-do the patch. Like a real mod-chip! That would be sweet. I just wonder why no one has done this? Can someone explain what the problem is?

» What Problem? Everything works great!

This thing works, only if you install the Waninkoko's cIOS , yeah there's said that it Doesn't, but is not true, I try it without cIOS and did not work, after I install cIOS it did work, but its better if you use WiiGator's Gamma 0.3 Loader, it do the Rebbot to the wii menu to patch it and also loads the games via the Loader too if you encounter some problem loading it from the wii menu when you rebooted. I got a Wii with System Menu 3.1U and IOS36 and cIOS226.v2 and wii works well.

Bleach Shattered Blade does have a bug, when you try to run it from the Patched (temporally Wii Menu) Rebooted, it shows white screen with strikes and sounds is dysplay.

Just run it with the loader from its menu using Homebrew Channel and that will do, all or most of the games will run good.

I did run Wii Music and Bleach: Shattered Blade, both run well with WiiGator's beta 0.3 and then with WiiGator Gamma's 0.3 (newest).

Using IMGBURN and Memorex DVD-R disc works excellent.

U can use Fujifilm DVD-R too at 2X-4X or 8X speed.

I think any good DVD-R disc works, as long you use IMG BURN, is the best at this, simple and fast.

Thanks, I hope this help.
