It seems that the popular Japanese Nintendo game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, may be coming online. More interestingly, the new version may include some non-Nintendo characters, as well as simplified combat.

Although game director Masahiro Sakurai has not determined the official character lineup as of yet, he has added one named "Solid Snake," indicating that non-Nintendo characters are being contemplated. Nonetheless, they must have appeared on a Nintendo platform at some time in order to be considered, and in any event, there will not be more than one or two additions.

Since Super Smash Bros. Brawl is popular throughout the world, they initially did not want to include Japanese-specific characters. However, some feedback on Fire Emblem additions have caused Sakurai to re-think his position.  Right now,it's too early to tell what the finalized lineup will look like, but will include characters besides the already beloved Mario and Link.

Online networking for SSBB has already been confirmed, but Sakurai isn't in a hurry.  His team is looking into the feature and hopes to include online play before the game ships next year, there won't be a complex interface; for example, there are no plans for leader boards.

Sakurai says a Nintendo DS version of the fighting series isn't in development at the moment, but doesn't rule out one for the future.

First of all we already know that Solid Snake is a character and it would make sense that it would be online. Also, @#7 only 3 (maybe 4?) of your characters have ever been on a Nintendo platform so they would never be characters. Sorry.

# Simplified?Guest 2006-06-05 12:56
Smash Bros was already a fairly simplified game, and now they keep talking about making it even more simple. I'm just worried as to how far they will go with this... If it becomes a button masher woe be unto fans.

P.S. #7 You should read. It said that the character had to be on a former or current Nintendo console. This would cut Master Cheif and Kratos... as well as ur last two (Freeman and Versetti)The only one that absolutely jumps out as possible would be Sonic or any of his friends.

What other characters could you all think of that would be plausible.

Simplified is a relative term. Not everyone can wavedash. Not everyone can shffl, etc. There are plenty of advanced techniques most casual players don't know about, and if you don't then don't think you're good because you can beat every kid on your block.

On topic, I think simplifying will actually do away with many advanced tactics. The Wii was always about expanding the market, and a simplified online fighting game is a step in the right direction.

I think that it is going to be amazing, and even though it might be "simpler" I don't think that means much. It could just be that people that don't play games can pick up and play and it will be easier than the last games. (how is that possible, I don't know) While keeping the advanced moves and such. It still should be pretty much the same game except different stuff.

This news has already been posted on this site, except for the information regarding new characters.

Here are some links posting same information, some dating back from May.

Nicet try, but just because you want the article to be longer, doesnt mean you can recycle already published information.

THANK YOU!

Heh, that's an interesting comment. I never picked up an 360 controller before my friend brought his over and I thought DOA4 was even simpler than SSBM. Hitting the same two buttons never felt easier.

Its not how fast they get news its that they say the same thing over and over and pass it over as news.

I can understand that there is no new news, however dont put the same sh1+ up again and again and try to pass it over as something new.

personally i believe that the whole metal gear thing is cool... since myamoto is best friedns wiht the creator.... but i dont think they should send any more third parties to this game! i mean i think it should be strictly nintendo..... and then make another game similar or only be able to play third parties online otherwise it will be ruined
