Madden NFL - Image 1Soon, players of Madden NFL do not have to quit their game to know what's happening in real-life football.

Thanks to a deal between ESPN, Electronic Arts Inc. and The Weather Channel, football console games are going to be infused with real-life events. Imagine this: If you're playing a Madden game in Pittsburgh Steeler's Heinz Field home stadium, it will be automatically set to rain if it's actually raining over there in that part of Pittsburgh. Or how about this one: if a player is currently suffering an injury, his video game counterpart will be incapacitated from playing as well.

Aaron LaBerge, senior vice president of technology and product development for ESPN better explains this new feature:
"So if a guy in the real world twists his ankle, you can't use him in the game until he gets back." Hmm, interesting.

Of course, fans of sports games are exhilarated, knowing that this new functionality is also applied in actual player statistics, which means you don't have to stop playing just to check on how your favorite quarterback is doing. More importantly though, this move should somehow quiet the issue about manipulation or miscomputations of stats in video game sports.

This new feature will be included with Madden NFL '08, scheduled to be out this August for Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 platforms. As  for the moment, there are no specific news whether this will be implemented in other Electronic Arts sports games. As always, we will be keeping you updated, so stay tuned!

That sounds great...on paper.

I usually play a few seasons in Madden within the time frame of one actual football season. I don't want my star player hurt for 3 years in my game if he's sidelined for 5 weeks with some sort of injury in real life.

And haven't the weather effects been done before? It just seems like a gimmick so EA can rehash Madden 07 and resell it to us with updated rosters and call it a new game.

Yeah I agree the weather thing is old news and the player injury will be a burden if you're a huge player, but I also think that the weather thing will have the option to be disabled should you wish as per previous EA titles.

The graphics look really nice however and it's probably worth it to escape Yet Another GameCube Port which Madden 07 felt like on the Wii. The controls were tight, but the graphics were lacking close up.

If you are playing a franchise just take preexisting injuries off. Besides, If you are in year 2 of your franchise and a player gets hurt in real life in week 10 it will not take your player off your season. This is more for play now settings. The players being hurt thing is already done, except you had to wait for roster updates, now it will do it automatic like. Besides every madden is little more than a roster update anyway. I'm still buying it.

# no injuriesGuest 2007-05-30 10:12
I only want my players to be injured if it happens in my game not in real life. I do think there should be more injuries occuring just like in the NFL.

# Yo, buy both X360 & PS3 consoles [End of the Console War Debate]AoxomomoxoA 2007-05-30 13:30
So many losers online say their console (either PS3 or X360) is better. No, the PS3 hardware is better only because it’s newer; however, the deciding factor which will choose the winner of this console war is the content (games). Both consoles have numerous blockbuster (must-buy, ground-breaking, triple-A, console-selling) exclusive games. That’s why you must buy both consoles.
