Madden for Wii Interview; Nunchuck Rumours Confirmed

EA always gets a bad attitude from gamers, and I for one feel it's unwarranted. Many just go along with the flow because they think dissing EA makes them "hardcore." Well, you'd better knock one bullet off your list for when you criticize them because "lazy" isn't there. An interview with IGN reveals that they're not just adding a few controller features to their flagship title, Madden, and calling it a day. They've created a huge group consisting of many smaller groups at EA Canada to create Wii titles and one of their first tasks is to create a Wii-specific Madden.

"When you go to hike the ball, for instance, as opposed to pressing a button you simply jerk the controller up. Boom, you snap the ball. When you want to pass the ball, you gesture a throwing motion while holding the button down to the intended receiver. When you want to stiff-arm left or right, you juke with the nunchuck controller literally. When you want to kick, you gesture the kick motion."

The man in charge, self-proclaimed Nintendo Fanboy John Schappert, said he's opposed to companies just slapping a few gimmicky features into their multiplatform games and calling it done. His team has more than one game in the works to take advantage of the Wii. He also had something more interesting to say when asked about how the nunchuck expansion would be used, "...we are still working on the final button layout, but it does use the trigger buttons, and it does use the accelerometer in the nunchuck unit as well for juking." It looks like we're gonna be getting ready for some sword and shield action with Zelda Revolution!

Madden 2007 should be ready for the Wii by launch. Click "Read" for the full interview.

I read this article on IGN yesterday. It's a three page article but worth the read. I didn't think it was possible...

But I actually want to buy a

*Gasp*

Madden title now. It seems like it's really going to be cool playing it with the controller. I really want this game now.

If you know me, I hate sports game with a passion. Especially football games. If it's not THPS or SSX, get that crap out of my face. I like playing the game of football with friends on occasion but it was always just so boring on consoles (at least, after Techmo Bowl. TB was awesome). But now the game looks like it's really going to be fun to play; I can't wait.

An NHL game would also be pretty fun on Wii, so I might just--for the first time--buy some sports games. So that's at least one thing that Wii has done already, gotten people like me who would never even touch sports games to want to play them.

Pfft, yeah right, I think there Xbox 360 games are self explanatory lol. I bet that was aimed directly at 2K.

The last time I enjoyed a football game was when me and my dad played NFL 95 on Genesis... I'll try it but I'm just not a big sports fan...

Well, the devolpers of "Madden Wii" are of a different studio than the regular Madden games, so he could be telling the truth. ^-^

Dude! This sounds like a friggin' awesome game. I could never play Madden. I could never figure it out. I'm better at football in real life than I am playing as an entire team in Madden. I'm that bad. :) But with this, all the controls make perfect sense. This sounds like an incredibly fun game.

this all makes sense?! how on god's green earth does a kick being made into a jerk of the wrist make more sense than pressing a button labelled 'kick'? i'd say each is abstract as the other. so to throw a ball forwards you flick the controller up? wouldn't flicking the controller up be more of a wok movement, or frying pancakes motion?

ok, yeah, there are different ways to play games on the rev. but i don't see how madden could possibly be playable ever, even with the wiiwand.

i'm still cool cos i still hate ea. so there

hey guys, just think of the fps implications, or other cool implications for this, remember the developer talking about red steel, pushing things over to get cover, like a table etc., well it wouldn't make much sense to push a table over w/ a gun or sword in your right hand now would it? Now we gots another limb to push something over with! So much more intuitive!!!!!! !
