Knowing is half the battle: Bill Gates says Nintendo is tough competition

Console wars aside - please guys, just put down the pitchforks and hug each other - let's look at this from a business perspective. Here we have one of the biggest corporate big wigs of this generation, Microsoft">Bill Gates, in a broadcasted interview with TV-Tokyo. The vid's below (uploaded by pokemogu). Don't mind the Japanese parts (for all we know, they might be talking about sushi or invading giant reptiles), but make sure you tune into Gates' part somewhere on the 13th second mark:

So there you have it. Commander-general of the Microsoft army himself states that Nintendo is their toughest competition. Now, before you start raising your pitchforks again, whether you're a Ninty fan or a 360 fan, you can still see some positive side to his statement.
  • For the Ninty fans: you can say that Bill Gates recognizes the success of Nintendo.
  • For the 360 fans: you can say that Bill Gates is planning to do something about Ninty's success.
We're not saying that Big Man Bill is admitting defeat - whoa!, far from it. But he does admit how hard competition is with Nintendo on the playing field. Knowing is half the battle, after all. They say that's the path to victory. Know thy enemy, know thy self. So, from a business perspective, if Bill Gates knows (and acknowledges) his enemy, then we're really going to see some intense competition in the coming months - and years, more like it.

Ok, back to hugging...

You know...you should just stop posting up these stories and leave it to Digg. I noticed for a while now that's where you get all your news as well as wait a day or two sometimes three. Just, Just stop.

khjk

QJ is pathetic. I only visit this site so I don't take up time visiting a bunch of sites. None of their stuff is original, and their "writers" suck balls. I hope the creator of QJ burns in hell.
by - 2007-01-10 17:54:25
what?

So QJ blows because they are a single source of content for you? So they are saving you time and getting all the news to you. Yeah, QJ sucks. Though I do agree their writers aren't up to par.

Too bad

Since Sony will be dominating alot of 2007 with the numerous games coming on the system.

This is disgusting...

Microsoft has been doing this since before the 360 launch. They're making Sony look like a non-issue, thinking that would only leave Nintendo, the losers of the previous generation, as the competition. I think Bill's gonna be in trouble for this one. I seriously doubt Microsoft wants to keep promoting the Wii like this when it's on track to be ahead of the 360 in about 6 months. Also, when the PS3 catches up on the supply end and starts doing some serious advertising... MS is gonna be just a tad surprised at that staff rammed up their ***.

Future Plans

I work for Bill's company and hes doing a fine job and remember if it wasnt for him we wouldnt have games right now well Nintendo too....they did their part.... Our Portable (Xbox180) is going to surpass portable technology with the first portable to have HD and a Processor of 1 Ghz. We Careless about Sony because they do what they want but Nintendo is much more likely to succeed. Sincerely, Microsoft Staff

Oh really

If you're planning on impersonating an administrator of a large company I suggest you start learning better grammar and punctuation. That goes for any user giving comment in my opinion. How can anyone take people seriously when what they write is extremely poor English?

PS3 Will Dominate!

I was well hyped over the nintendo wii when it came out but i a gotta say it does get old afta while and u start to realise the missing features it lacks such as online play, its friend system sucks, no HDD, no good video formats playable, cant play music while in game, poor graphics. The xbox 360 for me is dreadful. Sure Xbox Live is the most amazing service ever. But seriously though the 360 doesn't have a lot of good exclusive games apart from Halo, Fable and Gears of War. And it hasnt had a good release in the past 6 months apart form gear of war. Sure it has a bundle is good games but nothing special. Even Halo 3 isnt as good as it as been hyped up to be. It little things that make the 360 annoying, such as no HD-DVD playback unless you buy an add-on, and no upgradable HDD that you can do straight away without waitin for microsoft to make one. Even the fact that games can't be put on HD-DVD disks annoys me as games may start to come on 2 disks in the future. I think that the 360 for what it is, is overpriced seriously. It doesn't have wireless internet out of the box, HD playback out of the box, and Xbox costs you £40 yearly (which isnt a lot but is annoying) on top of your broadband fee. The Playstation 3 recently as had a lot of bad press, but this is over its price. People find ways to critize a console when it costs a lot because.... well it costs a lot. But people are forgetting the features that the PS3 is offering for the price. Such as Blu-Ray playback out of the box, upgradable HDD (up to 300gb) out of the box, Free Wireless online play out of the box, and Linux for hackers and people out of the box. Sony has offered all this and people begin to forget it. Sure Sony has lost some exclusive but not important ones, and its no like you still can't get them on the PS3 anymore. In fact most people forgot its exclusives it has left! Here is a list of up and coming games for the PS3 which are amazing in my personal opinion: PS3 Exclusive and up and coming Games: -Coded Arms Assault -Devil May Cry 4 -Eight days (SCE) -Final Fantasy XIII -Final Fantasy Versus XIII -Formula One (Published by Sony) -Grand Turismo 5 (Published by Sony) -Heavenly Sword (Published by Sony) -Killzone 3 (SCE) -Lair -Full Auto 2: Battlelines -Genji: Days of the Blade -Metal Gear Solid 4 -Ratchet and Clank 5 (Published by Sony) -Motor Storm (Published by Sony) -Resistance: Fall of Man (Confirmation) -Ridge Racer 7 (Confirmation) -The Getaway (SCE) -Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (SCE) -Warhawk (Published by Sony) -Unreal Tournament 2007 -Silent Hill 5 -GTA IV -Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier (Published by Sony)
