Kiki Kai World to make its way to the Wii early next year |
Ó
For those of us who felt just a tad bit disappointed at the cancellation of the sequel to Pocky and Rocky, that addictive SNES title that had us shooting down monsters from Japanese mythology, here's some very good news that should be cause for celebration: the game's spiritual title, Kiki Kai World, will be making its way to the PS2 this holiday season, and to the Wii early next year. Hooray! For the uninitiated, here's a brief backgrounder: Pocky & Rocky is a scrolling shooter video game that pretty much puts you in the shoes - or sandals - of a young Shinto shrine maiden named Pocky, in her quest to defeat the evil Black Mantle.
You'll dodge, slide and shoot your way through levels infested with monsters - with help from Rocky, of course, if you have a friend to man the second controller. It was loads of fun back then, and it sure would be now.
Before we break out the party poppers, though, here's a bit of a disclaimer: Kiki Kai World isn't actually Pocky & Rocky 2, but sort of a spiritual successor, according to game publisher UFO. The deal here is that Taito, now owned by Square Enix, have rights to the actual title, so unfortunately the guys over at UFO Entertainment had to let it go. But still, they say that Kiki Kai World will be very similar to what we saw in the cancelled sequel, which should be good news.
