Kaplan: Wii features selectively unveiled for consumers

Perrin Kaplan - Image 1 There's apparently a reason behind the cheap wholesome console known as the Wii. According to Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's VP, it's because the company itself is being selective about the features it wants to unveil.

In GameDaily's in-depth interview with Kaplan on the success and long-term plans of Nintendo, she discussed the different features the Wii already has. She also remarks on how it's likely that even the Wii will go the way of the GBA and DS, with newer models packed with additional features coming out at a later point in time. While this may annoy hardcore gamers, she mentions that it's also good business sense in the long term in relation to their currently extended fanbase.

She notes on page three of the interview, when talking about increased online functionality for the Wii that

...for people who are hardcore gamers nothing can ever come fast enough for them, ever. I mean even when we announced a mass market price, which has been a blow away [success], hardcore gamers even complained about that.... And having things at that pace is overwhelming for a lot of the other consumers, so we've tried to roll things out at a pace that makes sense... So online stuff will be coming soon and hopefully you all will be really pleased with it. And if you're really, really into online I can bet that you'd be playing it on all the systems.

Not exactly the answer hardcore Wii fans were looking for, but it's certainly a truthful one, at least for the profit-oriented folks at Nintendo. For more of the interview, just check the read link below.

ok

I F*^&ing hate her neckerchief!!! (I just don't like those, they look kind of stupid and it must be really cold under that spotlight?!.?) On a brighter note I like thew wii and it has been a good console thus far. I can't say I agree with the B.S.-ish kind of statements she is making. Friend codes suck balls and I think we can pretty much all agree on that one. Make an online system that is a big pain in the ass for a "non-hardcore" crowd?? Are we really that stupid. Its just a way to avoid admitting that friend codes suck and are a bad idea. Single console code is fine but multiple numbers is a little ridiculous. I personally believe friend codes are a way to discourage online play to a degree. It all costs money ya know. Free for us or not it still isn't free for them. The wii is a great system but its a damn shame that they are being bull headed about online. Online is about community. Whats the point if that community is unable to communicate.

So...

"So online stuff will be coming soon and hopefully you all will be really pleased with it. " What does this mean? Does this mean Nintendo might just get rid of all the Friend Codes on future games? Will it be similar to that of XBOX LIVE? Who knows, only time can tell. I still have my hopes up for the Wii Online Play.

Pleeeeeeeeease

So i dont own a wii...yet..and as far as it seems Ninty, or any other developer for wii, hasnt came out with games that are online-capable. And as far as it sounds friend codes have to be used to play online against other people. What i would love for Nintendo to start doing would be 1.No friend codes, especially not one for each game. get rid of em! and 2.Start making online-capable games! Please! Then i'll be more willing to save up and get a Wii. Although its current features are practically reason enough to get one,i'm a big online gamer so i neeeeeeed for this to have online games ^^
