Joining the Rock Band(wagon), Guitar Hero 3 may not meet demand

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was released the other week for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Already, Activision's saying they raked in about US$ 100-million in sales for the first week alone in North America. With the title released across the three major current generation video games consoles (with a PC version to follow, of course), Activision is pushing around their supplies for Guitar Hero III in numbers of epic proportion. At least, according to CEO Robert Kotick:

Competitively, we expect the Guitar Hero franchise to be the winner at retail this holiday. We have huge early consumer response, well before the heavy-selling periods of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have an unprecedented amount of global supply, and the product is available now on all console platforms.

Strangely, as if to echo a statement made by John Riccitiello about Rock Band (not) meeting demand, Kotick believes that, despite the numbers of Guitar Hero III being shipped, Activision might not meet the "exceptionally high demand" for their rhythm genre title ("for every platform") during the holidays as well.

This story sucks? This story rocks!

Its already sold out everywhere across all platforms.. a complete failure in my eyes.. Not meeting demand is one of the biggest taboos a publisher can make.. and its a huge black mark on Activisions record in my eyes..

This was a real let down for me.. considering I went to pick up the game just 2 days after launch and was unable to find it..

With Activision running their Slash commercial on a continuous loop.. its just a repeated slap to my face.. It pisses me off more than video games should.

was pre-ordered in a big city... got it a day after it was out... if you want a game w/in the first week or two just preorder it. It's always been this way... one of the greatest disappointments of my meeger childhood was getting Batman for NES instead of the coveted SMB 3. I've never preordered and gotten stiffed.

Dude Batman was a sweet game, definately no SMB 3, but I still play it regularly. Honestly the only version I've seen sold out anywhere is the Wii version of GHIII. I guess the sales are all relative to location.

c'mon people, production facilities can only make so many at a time. Just be thankful the game is so good people are buying it like crazy. Have some frikkin patience. Waiting another week is not going to kill you.

Good for the developers. C'mon Halo was great for the Halo fans and there it rests.

This kind of "Game" really transcends all levels, kids gamers and even adults who always wanted to be Jimi Hendrix but can't play a guitar. This game really hits the spot with regard to fun and entertainment.

That said I can sympathize with those that are waiting for the game but in all fairness it's almost impossible to predict how many copies should be made in advance. At the same time they gotta try and stop copies being leaked.

A few years ago we would go to the local shop to see what was new. Today we know months in advance thanks to the internet and its use. Now everybody hits the local store at the same time.

As stated Pre-Order is probably the best.

I love the stupid people that say omg i cant find the game anywhere... well did you preorder it... well no.. but.. well if your not smart to preorder it what do you think is going to happen? Man i hated working at ebgames and everyone was mad because most/all of the good games we got in only went to those who preordered it. sorry Keith K but geez you have to be kidding me! oh and i knew the wii was going to be a big hit so i got off my ass and went and stayed in line for about 6hours to get it. and now you see people still trying to get there hands on it. also you say a real letdown? HAHAHA this happens to every good game. so im assuming your new to gaming, which in that case.. you have to deal with it. next time preorder! lmao.....!!! hahah
