GameFront.de alerts the internet about what games the readers of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu want the most for this week. We're posting the chart below, all for your voyeuristic needs. Please note though that the numbers in the parentheses after the position indicate the game's rank in the "Most Wanted" charts in the previous weeks.

It seems that for the past three weeks the number one spot's been a toss up between two of Square Enix's franchises, Final Fantasy XIII, and Dragon Quest IX. Biohazard #@%!8
9#@%! (Resident Evil 5 in other shores) is planted firmly at third spot, While MGS 4 is hovering somewhere above that.

We'd like to describe the titles in the chart in more detail, but we'll skip that. It seems more pertinent to note that perhaps Microsoft needs more titles like Lost Odyssey, or at least titles that have as much hype as that game in Japan, as it is the only Xbox 360 title in the top 20.

Of course, to keep the console analysis level, we'll balance out that assertion by noting that we're wondering how many of those PS3 titles listed will stay for the exclusive to the PS3. Exclusivity may not matter in Japan but it may make a difference in other regions where the PS3 sees stiffer competition. As for the Wii? Well, we're still waiting for online play. There. Equal opportunity console analysis. Happy?

i think the largest caveat here is 'remember this is japan' as in : it is different in the rest of the world.

what's the likely release dates of some of these things? i mean i know ff13 etc are about 2 years away, but has it any relevance to the survey do you think?

Eh actually the PS3 sales are now DOWN to below 11,000 per week, the Wii is at around 72,000 per week and rising...

I have a Wii but I dont think 360 owners will care if MGS comes to their machine or not, looking at the amount of 360 releases coming THIS year they will have more than enough to choose from.

Pretty sad state when PS3 owners are having to wait for any decent games and the Ones that are are just old follow ups from the PS1.

JAPAN -

As the 360 sells around 4,000 a week (more when Forza 2 is released in a couple of weeks and then Lost Odyssey) in Japan how do you work it out no Japanese person has got One ? and as the PS3 has dropped to just over 10,000 per week and is still declining looks like soon almost no Japanese person will have a PS3 neither... The only system that is doing well in Japan is the Wii which is currently at 72,000 per week and they cant make them fast enough for the demand..

Clearly evidence that the PS3 will soon rise to the top when all of its awesome games come out. I suppose its undrstandable for 360 fanboys to suggest that some of tthose PS3 games at the top will come to the 360 when they one have one game in the entire chart. DMC4 and Resi Evil 5 dont count either because everyone in Japan wants them for the PS3, not the 360.

Anyway, hasnt MGS4 been proven to be a PS3 exclsuive by Kojima himself? Also FFXIII will also be exclusive if you actually read that interview properly, the Fabula Nova Crystallis series could appear on other platforms. And even so, its far more likely to be on the DS, PSP or Wii rather than the 360.

Listen to yourself, you say it will rise to the top WHEN those so called awesome games come out? but by then everyone will either have Ethe lite or the Wii, and as just about every game coming to PS3 is just an update from the PS2 version I dont think you will find it will make that much difference in sales as almost everybody still has their PS2 as well as their Wiis and 360s so I doubt these updated versions of games they already have on PS2 will make them buy a PS3.

Thats the best analysis I've ever seen. The PS3 is selling poorly in Japan but that its just because of its high price and lack of Japanese games. However, get over it, one of this days the price will go down and ff13 and mgs4 will be available. By that time we should see. The wii is selling well because its really cheap, after all there are not many good games for it either except for zelda and paper mario. The 360 well it haven't had much luck in Japan and probably won't.

If you're referring to the Game Informer with GTAIV on the cover(newest one) they were just reiterating information that was released in early march. Japanese gamers stick with Sony because Sony consoles have more games that the Japanese want to play. It doesn't seem like they enjoy Western games (for the life of me I cannot imagine the Japanese playing Madden, and I dont' think Halo/Resistance/Insert-latest-FPS-here has a huge market in Japan. Your statement that every game coming to the PS3 is an update from a PS2 version is utter bull. Same could have been said for the 260 when it came out. A lot of the games were "Next Gen" ports (which usually only meant better graphics being the most significant change)

I don't think that ANY one of those PS3 games on the Most wanted list will have a PS2 version, so of course it will make a difference to sales. The other thing that will make a difference to sales would be a decent price drop, and when that comes around - paired with the release of the "most wanted" games on that list above, I expect that there will be a surge in PS3 sales. Simple. ^_^

I think you are making too big an assumption there. If you define the rest of the world as "UK and the US" you may be right. Otherwise, you'd be seriously mistaken. I can tell you now that the PS3 is the more popular console in the rest of Asia, for the same reasons its more popular in Japan. The games. Sure, RE5 will come to the 360... But what about the other PS3 games that don't? The ones that cater to Japanese and Asian tastes? (i.e Monster Hunter 3, Gundam Musou, MGS4, the upcoming Super Robot Wars game for PS3 etc)

And don't get me started with Oceania, there is less 360/Sony fanboyism around here and the PS3 is selling pretty well. So for goodness sakes, take off that fanboy hat and just concede the fact that both consoles will do well and leave it at that.

The more multiplatform games that come out, the better, the companies make more money so they can go on to develop better games AND we can all play the games we want irrespective of our console choice.

. i feel sorry for the guy though. 360 is a good system, but honestly, it doesnt appeal to me. wii is fun too but im not really into the motion sensing stuff. looks fun, but more for parties, and im not a party guy . thats why i stuck with ps3, because it has the capabilities to me. music, movies, etc. i wanted more of an entire entertainment system, not just a gaming box.

I dont' think the bombs really play that big a part. Sure, they're important in the overall history of the world but in terms of dictating who buys what, I don't think it makes a difference. The Japanese tortured, raped and killed countless people during World War 2 (luckily for you Westerners, it was located around the Asia-pacific region) Sure there are some who still hold bitter grudges against them (my parents and most people in their generation) I for one however, love the Japanese. They have great technology (come on.. 9.07 Gbps internet), great entertainment media, great food and lets not start with the girls ey? ;) I'm sure the Japanese people would also share the same sentiment. Let bygones be bygones, but at the same rate, don't forget the past. Again, the reason why Japanese don't buy non-Japanese games/consoles is because they won't buy something that doesn't interest them, and I'm sure neither would you.

I noticed how bio hazard 5 is more anticipated right now than metal gear, that is really interesting and as most of you know bio hazard 5 is coming to xbox 360 anyway only 9 titles on that list is either coming out for xbox 360 or Ps3, the xbox 360 is looking good with 4 titles out of the 9 coming to the xbox 360 numbers 3,4,11, and 12 those are bio hazard 5, monter hunter, devil may cry 4 and lost odyssey, and 1 of them is exclusive to 360 Lost Odyssey I also noticed that Lost Odyssey jumped from the number 14 spot to number 12, very interesting indeed.

I will be buying the PS3 versions of RE5 and DMC4 and i'm in the US. I'm very sure that the PS3 version of DMC4 will be superior to the 360 version because it was developed on the PS3 1st. Its only when a game is ported to the PS3 from the 360 that it looks worse due to the nature of its programming. RE5 might look better on 360 depending on which system it was developed on. As many have stated before, Kojima has said specifically that MGS4 will NOT be on the 360. He also said he wants to make games for the 360/wii but it won't be MGS4. FF13 has no chance of being on 360 as well judging by recent interviews with Square Enix.

A few points to make your point valid

1. Learn to spell

2. Punctuate (yes that means using more than one full-stop)

3. Get your facts straight.

Blue dragon was always a 360 exclusive. Big deal, it didn't go from PS3 exclusive to 360 exclusive. Bringing up that point was moot.

Japanese people hardly ever buy Western made games. Reason being, they produce enough games in their market that cater specifically to their tastes. GTA doesn't appeal to the Japanese, yet we all know how popular it is in the Western world.

The 360 is rife with games for Western tastes, MS being an American company probably has something to do with that. Because the 360 doesn't cater to the Japanese, they won't buy it. Nintendo and its Wii on the other hand DOES cater to Japanese tastes as well as American tastes (albeit at a younger age group) This explains why it sells so well all over. Hopefully this explains why the PS3 is popular in Japan, not because they're mad/brainwashed/*****ing blind but because MS hasn't done enough to attract Japanese buyers. Simple.

Good job on the fair opinion. I too will be guying the PS3 versions (just because I find that my tastes are more similar to the Japanese than that of Americans - could be because I'm Asian? O.o)

I think that the porting issues from the 360 -> PS3 do contribute to a large amount of the loss in graphics quality. However, I also concede that the 360 probably has better potential for graphics overall due to the Unified Shader Architecture of their Xenium? chip ( I sense a PS2 vs Xbox styled rematch)

It would be good if people could discuss constructively instead of bashing each other's console/exclusivity.

not sure about monster hunter, but the same week, ace combat and katamari was anounced for 360 I heard monster hunter was also coming, and remember devil may cry 4 was anounced not too long ago, capcoms (dead rising and lost planet) both sold more than a million copies worldwide that is why they anounced devil may cry 4 for xbox 360, so I don't see why monster hunter won't come.

Ace Combat will probably go the way of Ridge racer (with 360 getting an "exclusive" and PS3 getting another "exclusive" - yet both are essentially the same)

The reason why I'm skeptical about monster hunter is this :

Capcom doesn't give a crap about Monster Hunter for Western Audiences.

Making DMC4 multiplatform is good, in the sense that it will definitely sell well. Monster Hunter on the other hand, has a niche audience, and it didn't sell well in the US, nor did it get glowing reviews. It would not be financially viable for Capcom to take a risk of porting MH3 to the 360 AND releasing it to the US/Europe, just based off the track record that the previous MH titles have had.

An English PS3 version is already asking alot from Capcom... Expecting a 360 version (which would be almost SOLELY for Western audiences - since there isn't a high degree of 360 ownership in Japan) would be asking a bit too much.

As for the OTHER games (FF XIII/MGS) I won't outright deny that it may happen, but the odds of it happening are VERY VERY slim. 360 may get a new Fabula Nova Crystalis game, heck it may even get the "Sustenance/Superfluence/Somnolescene/etc" edition of MGS4, but that will be a bit further down the track... which, by then PS3 ownership numbers should have made a bit of a jump. ^_^ Now if only there was a price drop involved as well...

There is always a chance of it happening though, since it means more money for the companies involved (especially since these titles are GUARANTEED to sell). But before there is an official announcement, everything is just conjecture...

I am not particularly interested in quite a few of the PS3 games that are currently out at the moment as well... However, that being said, Gundam Musou, Virtua Tennis 3 and Virtua Fighter 5 all look great, andwith DMC4/MGS4/Ninja Gaiden Sigma/Heavenly Sword/Bladestorm/Assassin's Creed/Lair coming, its going to be a great time to own a PS3. ^_^ Now if only Capcom would port Dead Rising over to PS3...

The discussion is not regarding next-gen vs current gen. The discussion is regarding what the Japanese want. 8 games for the PS3, 1 for 360, 3 for Wii, 2 for PSP, 3 for NDS and 3 for PS2.

All this goes to show is that the PS3 has games that the Japanese want and that when they get released, PS3 sales in Japan will increase.

PS3 : I have it,have about 12 games on it already...and to tell you the truth am really disappointed by them...but hey hey wait I didn't finish talkin

also virtua tennis 3 and virtua fighter 5 !

XBOX360 : I also got the concle and I have to say that it also has a very good share of games like : Gears of war and,blue dragon and lost odyssey...

so if I get asked wiether to still play my 360 games and buy new ones or not....

guess I will still buy them and still play them

Voodoo : People like you are the reason why the US gets such a bad rap... Instead of criticising other culture's interests, why not accept it and maybe experience it for yourself before you make judgement? I'm not saying you have to like dating sims or the other niche genre's the Japanese seem to enjoy but you should really come out of your hole and experience the rest of the world before you next open your mouth....

YaMi: Haha, I see you added Super Robot Taisen to your PS3 list, thats one of the main reasons I'm getting a PS3 as well... Pity I don't have as much money as you to get a 360 as well...

As for the Wii games that are coming out, Spiderman 3 will probably be interesting on the Wii (with its Wiimote web swinging mechanic), Mario Party 8 (just for the sheer fun factor) , Mario Strikers Charged seems to be interesting too... Mario sports titles are almost always fun... ^_^

Pity that the 360 didnt' get a decent SRW, otherwise it would have given me more reason to think about getting one. In the meantime however, PS3 looks to be the one to get for me. I think Sony will do well, despite what all the nay-sayers think. They just won't do as well as they used to during the PS and PS2 era, which is a good thing because Sony has been getting quite arrogant and complacent really. Its really a good thing that the Wii has come in to kick them in the ass...

Quixand, I don't want or need final fantasia 13 I say fantasia because final fantasy is not what it used to be since hironobi sakaguchi left square and now he is making lost odyssey for xbox 360 and for that other idiot who said sakaguchi is past his prime you must be a kid, developers never lose their edge, once you are good you are good, and I never cared much for metal gear and for that other guy I don't like splinter cell either and I have played both games. I have an xbox 360 and their is no games for ps3 that makes me want to buy the system.
