Japan Wii launchSo the Wii launch in Japan had been successful. Big deal, you've probably anticipated it already. Well, if you're into the nitty-gritty details, we've compiled a mini-list of various Japan Wii launch trivia. Anyway, I've taken the liberty to put them in bullet points, for easy viewing. Go check it out!
  • At around 5 A.M. on December 2 (Wii launch day itself), Nintendo's spiffy unit was already sold out at the Bic Camera mega store in Yarakucho.
  • Around 400,000 units were available during launch.
  • According to our source, 300 units were pre-ordered in Rakuten ("one of Japan's top e-commerce and auction sites") in less than five minutes.
  • Wii Sports was considered Zelda's "serious competitor".
  • The top four games were:

- Wii Sports

- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

- WarioWare: Smooth Moves

- Hajimete no Wii (Wii Play to You and I).

  • There were fewer scalpers here than in the PS3 launch, or so we heard.
  • There was no countdown ceremony during the launch.
  • The Bic Camera Yarakucho had a Sonic the Hedgehog mascot hand a Wii to its first customer.
