Nintendo Wii outsells Sony PlayStation 3 3-to-1 - Image 1

It looked like the PlayStation 3 was finally catching up to the Wii when it outsold the Nintendo console for the whole month of November. This was not the case for January though, as the Nintendo Wii regains its lead in Japan.

For the four weeks to January 27, the Nintendo Wii sold 479,931 units in Japan while the PlayStation 3 sold 165,719 units. The Wii outsold the PlayStation 3 3-to-1 for the month, which was the same ratio they were dancing around last August.

Analysts believe that the Wii regained momentum with the release of Wii Fit. Perhaps anticipation of Super Smash Bros. Brawl was also a factor (the game was released in Japan last January 31).

The race is far from over though and with the impending release of a new PS3 SKU, the console may yet again regain its traction in the race.

wii and ps3 are not "against" you know. It's not the same people who play wii and ps3/x360. For exemple, I had an x360, and I have a ps3, but I won't have a wii before they reduce the price...

Not against the value offered by the PS3 for just a 100 bucks more, it isn't.

both are good consoles, wii for game library (zelda, metroid, mario, wii fit mario kart, and of course smash) and ps3 for both games and functionality (ratchet + clank, resistance, mgs4, gt5, final fantasy XIII, region free access, connection to psp, blu-ray, and many others) i say own both, be happy

No surprise the Wii won the console war,it's over for the 360/ps3.It's not all bad though, they'll all sell well but the Wii will most likely outsell the 360/ps3 in a 2-1 basis,if not more.

» So Thats Why We Have None In Stores

Japan has them all. Oh well. Very few good games for it anyway. Best feature so far is the virtual console in my opinion.

» Wii is expensive

Think about it, it is selling for 279.99 in Canada. The 360 arcade goes for 299.99, just 20 dollars more, not to mention Microsoft is dropping the price of the 360 soon. Also, PS3 is going for 399.99 for the 40gig model, it will probably receive a price cut as well to counter Microsoft. Wii, which offers only the motion sensing..doesn't really seem worth it to me. Not to mention, there aren't a lot of good games coming out for it. Well, Smash Bro. Brawl is good. But that's just one.

Why do they keep comparing these too ? Its like comparing the numbers of Hyundai Execls sold to the number of Porsche's ...

even though i absolutely dont want the Wii to win the console war, it unfortunetely will. theres no denying it. i have a PS3 but i can see that the Wii will win, ii mean it passed the xbox with a year headstart, in its first year. its just so casual that anyone would buy it without caution, and its cheap and small and not confusing to casuals. who knows maybe there will be a shift but it doesnt seem to be letting down. the only reason why the wii didnt do so good in november and december was because of the shortage. i dislike the wii, PS3 FTW but it is what it is/
