Jack Thompson scores a win in Utah, House Committee approves bill |

Disbarment is no bar to Jack Thompson's call. The games-as-porn bill he drafted was approved by an overwhelming vote of 10-3 by the Business and Labor Committee of the Utah House of Representatives. The bill even extended to encompass the film industry.
The bill will require retailers and movie theaters that advertise that they don't sell M-rated games games or R-rated movie tickets to underage buyers and then do so will be fined US$ 2,000.
And while Thompson was not physically present during the meeting, his influence certainly was. Gayle Ruzika testified on behalf of the bill, bringing up the case of Devin Moore, an Alabama teen who played Grand Theft Auto. He murdered three policemen in 2004. Here's part of Ruzika's testimony:
These [games] are the kind of things that are training our children. This is the vile stuff. The Grand Theft Auto games are cop-killing murder simulators. And when [Devin Moore] was faced with being arrested he knew exactly what to do. He knew how to aim... at the head and each time killed these [officers]. We don't want this for our children. Not at all. Please, please vote yes today on this bill.
Anything we can do to protect our children from the violence, from the filthy pornography that the only way they can get into the pornography is being good at the game. They work hard and get to certain levels and when they get to the high enough levels then they get into the pornography - filthy, vile stuff that you would be appalled and never want your children to see. And then as a reward, they get to kill the women...
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Mike Morley, will now move on to the full Utah House for consideration. For more testimonies on the bill, you can follow the source link below.

If he learned from GTA that shooting someone in the head kills them, then that's pretty sad (it should be obvious)
If GTA taught him how to aim a gun, that's sad
They're assuming every parent thinks that their kid shouldn't see certain things. What bothers me is how accessible violent movies (with real people) are than the relatively harmless sex videos that people go after (legal sex videos)
And I kinda like how they are calling it pornography, I personally like pornography, because that's immediately what I associate it with. And a lot of people love pornography. That's why it's a big business.
Stop blaming video games for murders. Millions of people play these violent video games. Very few commit murders. Go after the drug dealers or something and stop wasting taxpayers' dollars on retarded bills.
But hey, that's fine, anyone can go online and buy a used game. Parents should just monitor their kids better. When I first played Vice City my dad caught me and locked my game up. That's how you do it! Then I got punished and was scared to play M games. ((A year later I caught my dad playing it.))

No surprise they nail it in the Mormon state.

oh gawd you can tell they've never played it

They blame this ***** on GTA. People were shooting *****ing nazis and demons WAY before police officers.
GTA San Adreas was centered on stopping a CORRUPT cop from trafficking drugs. What the hell is wrong with that?!
And you don't see these asses ever bringing up ANYTHING but GTA. They don't mention the Halo killing, they don't mention the Mortal Kombat killings, only GTA...because you can kill cops. CAN kill cops. It isn't required.
This is so ridiculous. Thompson and all his lackeys need to stop sucking each other's *****s long enough to see that this is bull.

why the F**K doesn't he or anyone else relate violence to the retarded movies we have today called SAW and Friday the 13th? when games aren't ABOUT killing, they just feature killing in them...
go to hell jack Thompson. i hope you get assassinated soon.

any harm upon him will only further his agenda ... he is less volatile while alive and in perfect health.
I wouldnt mind the chance to slap him around, but I know how these things go....
with the swing of my fist he would be right... and we would all suffer for it...
just think a bit before acting like a dip$h1t

It is terribly sad that this fellow used GTA to enact his violent dreams before carrying them out, but this notion of gunplay in a videogame training you to masterfully shoot a gun in real life... I wonder, how many people have used a firearm in the last few years, say since the advent of FPSs? I have. I can bullseye people on the fly from a thousand paces in an online shooter, but I can barely pop a soup can from a couple yards away in real life without a lot more practice. The two are not at all congruent skills.

Will this guy ever get a clue.
You lost your license to be a lawyer because you violate the law, etc.
Bet ya, this bill will be banned.
The federal court in Washington, DC says that games are protected under first amendment rights so make laws banning games are unconstitutiona l.
Jack Thompson, go away.
