Jack Thompson - Image 1Jack Thompson may be disbarred, but he's not about to go off without the final word.

As a minor update to his disbarment, Thompson has coughed up the US$ 42,525.27 he owes the court, which represents the legal fees that were used to prosecute him. The fees totaled up to US$ 43,675.35 but was reduced by the Bar to its current amount.

Not satisfied with just handing in the check, Thompson made sure they knew he already sent it:

Dear Chief Justice Quince:

Please advise today what you and the Court have done with my check for $42,525.27 that was sent you on November 6 to be held in trust by the Supreme Court.

I find today, in talking with my bank, that the check has not been negotiated. IÂ’m not paying any interest on this amount. You all had it from me on the date it was due.

Regards, Jack Thompson

Just a bit of news to brighten up your weekend.

» Nice

Oh look, Look, he bought a copy of GTAIV - wayy to go Jack! that's one more off the shelf.

Please do not give more importance to this guy which that's what he is looking for. This is my final post on Jack from here on I will ignore anything that has to do with this guy.

» My thoughts.

I find it disturbing is that this guy -has- $42,525.27 that he can just sign away. I'm assuming this because A) the housing market and the economy its self is in such shambles and B) he's effectively out of a job so he probably couldn't get a loan for that much.

Sure wish I had that much money to just kick around.

» MY thoughts.

Okay, when you take a look at this guy's history, all he has been doing is looking for a murder and blaming Grand Theft Auto (Insert Number Here) as the cause. I agree that violent games are bad for small children (age 11 and down), but just look at how many people who own GTA who DIDNT kill anyone! I have heard somewhere that 95% of teenage boys reported that they play video games. GTA is an immensely popular game. So when a lunatic teen kills someone, don't blame it 'cause they had GTAIV sitting in their game collection amongst other games; blame it simply on the kid. This is an exact quote from Thompson, "Posey essentially practiced how to kill on this game. If it wasn't for Grand Theft Auto, three people might not now be dead." Thompson, there is one tiny little mistake on your statement. IN REAL LIFE YOU DON'T HOLD DOWN R1 AND CIRCLE TO SHOOT PEOPLE! If anything, when I played GTA, I actually felt WORSE about someone getting shot. Besides, video games are a fantasy just like movies and books. It's the cheapest way to experience something that would be otherwise dangerous, expensive, result in horrible consequences, or downright impossible. The worst thing that could happen to a child after playing violent games excessively, is that they start cussing. Moral of the story: Don't go suing GTA for ANY murder out there just because he had it in his game collection; when someone burns down someone else's house, nobody blames the lighter.

THE SOLUTION: Parents simply need to restrict the games that their children play especially if it changes their behaviour. Personally, I cannot imagine a situation in which the parents would buy a game for their kid and after finding out that it's violent, blame the game developer. If your kid plays GTAIV wayyy to much for their own good, simply confiscate the game and give it back after a week or so saying that they must not play that game so much. If they start seeing that the kid is swearing more often or becoming aggressive, take the game away for good. I am 15 years old and although I hate being grounded, sometimes it's the best way to learn. Jack Thompson needs to be grounded...

@XASTABUS: Right now I cannot find exactly how much, but the bastard won a couple of a million dollars in one of his earlier assaults on pop culture. 42k is certainly nothing to him, oh and that probably payed for that copy of GTAIV too
