Someone's in a foul mood after missing tea... - Image 1Manhunt 2 definitely got everyone on their seats with the ruckus it caused. Up until now, there are probably all kinds of people wanting to voice out their opinion regarding the matter. UK Leader of the House of Commons Jack Straw gave his piece, and it's about the gaming industry and lack of social responsibility.

Keith Vaz, same person who spearheaded the campaign against the original Manhunt, brought up the issue of its sequel in parliament. He asked, "Will the Leader of the House please tell us when he expects a statement to be made... or when we may have a debate on the social responsibilities of those who make a huge amount of money out of these videogames?"

Straw promptly responded, "We do not see sufficient social responsibility and understanding by the creators and purveyors of such games. I will of course ensure that the [Prime] Minister is made fully aware of my right honourable Friend's concerns."

Do developers really need to be more responsible, or are they trying to create art that doesn't have boundaries? With the law closing in, looks like devs don't have much of a choice.

who else isn't social responsible?

...and so another Jack surfaces I can't agree with how people can make such a remark about an entire industry, or at least the gaming industry. I mean, employees and employers in most companies know the risks involved in the decisions made and weigh in the costs of such decisions. Not displaying social responsibility would be to, for example, deny that a product or idea would have any effect on children. They admit such with the ESRB rating system. I can't really continue with this. I'm not very well informed. Perhaps someone who has an idea of where I'm going with this can pick up where I'm leaving off with that. I mean what about other industries? The tobacco industry has quite a reputation. Although I've heard that a lot of arguments against it are based off of biased and selected reports (meaning people took what they wanted and left out what they didn't). I still have to check my sources though. But yea, can anyone get how I wanted to connect that with reports about the effects of violence in the media on the minds of teenagers and children? How about the medical industry? Aren't there conspiracy theorists (or whatever you'd call them) who say that cures are being held back intentionally in order to make sure that profits are made off of medicine and whatnot? How about companies who use foreign labor? Don't give me that stuff about how we're supplying jobs in needy countries. Yes, we're supplying jobs, but the pay is low. It's better than nothing, but so is bread and water compared to a grain of rice. You know, with all the higher ups who seek to gain more money and power at the expense of the working class and the poor, who exactly is it that lacks social responsibility? I pretty much condensed a lot of what i wanted to say into short sentences. Comments welcome.

.

entirely true. but at least in america, our bill of rights protects art thats why 0 cases have been won against the esrb, dont know what to say about europe though especially with gears outlawed in germany. and for all the buerocracy, their bs will come bight them in the ass eventually, just hopefully before it swallows too many other lives (enron). personally i see these problems eventually escalating to another revolution or war, its seems we are too far in the rabbit hole.
