Iwata Reveals More WiiConnect 24 Features |
Ó
A
recent interview with Satoru Iwata reveals several interesting features
relating to the WiiConnect 24 service. The Virtual Console service will
not be limited to retro games. In fact, online games, demos, and other
content will be offered. Nintendo has already thought about how they
can sell the smaller, downloadable games."When creating a packaged game to be priced at 5,000 yen [$44 USD], developers tend to feel the need to create a rich game. Yet it is possible to create a reasonably entertaining game in 2 months with a team of three," says Iwata, adding that "offering such games for 500 yen [$4 USD] over a network could lead to a reasonable number of people purchasing it. By offering an environment that allows this, we hope to encourage more developers to pursue basic yet enjoyable gameplay."
It sounds like you won't have to leave home to get your new game fix! The possibilities of smaller games are endless and can inspire the creativity of game developers. With a tool such as the Wiimote, some development teams could go crazy! That's in a good way, of course.
Another interesting aspect of the WiiConnect 24 service is a downloadable DS content. "Let's say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii's to their Nintendo DS's."
How awesome is that? Imagine what all could be downloaded to the DS. Minigames, movies, and other fun media are all possibilities. It appears as if the Wii will enrich the DS experience as well. As more and more information is revealed, the WiiConnect 24 feature sounds more and more promising. Only one question remains: How long will it take before I max out my credit card?

sure do
The best part of this is that it's gonna be pretty 56k friendly. AWESOME!
'...find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them'
How cute =) I like the idea.
#2...do you live in a cave?
Unless Ive been livin in a cave and they announced one... What If I want to save a demo... I don't want to hae to download everytime
#4: even in caves you should have heard about the benefits of flash memory cards and mass storage devices connected via USB ;)
The Wii is said to be shipping with a flash card included, leaving the user the liberty to upgrade that said card or at least enhancing the capacity by plugging memory sticks or hard drives into the external accessible ports.
Just to clear things up, no offense intended.
SDs I believe, whic are about £30//$50 for a 2gig one - that would be able to hold 100's of N64 games (about 30meg each), so really an HDD would be overkill.
Thats sweet.
And yes SD cards cost pretty much nothing these days.
Also someone said that Wii is going to be 56k friendly??? I doubt that since the internet isnt really 56k friendly.
it's like nintendo invented x-box live. only more on the arcade side and less on the easy to use multi-player.
could this mean that an update to the DS OS could be done now?
I know we all like to root for the underdog (Nintendo) but why isn't everyone calling Nintendo a thief, like they did with Sony? I lost a little respect for Nintendo for claiming they are the only innovators, and that they never copy anything. Complete bull$hit I know but the arrogance pisses me off.
It's clear that Nintendo is finally trying to come on board with online distribution which I tip my hat off to MS for it's introduction.
Sony also has already started on this front and according to rumors they seem to have it as a high priority. I just hope Nintendo can catch up quickly. I am not a fanboy, I hate all companies on a non discriminatory basis =)
when did nintendo ever say that they were the only innovators?
Nintendo European President, I believe.
Iwata also implies it without saying it. In either case it's wrong.
i think more specifically the professor is upset at nintendo fans that make the outrageous nintendo innovation remarks.
Nintendo's representatives do kinda have an arrogance to them. Then again, so do Sony and Microsoft representatives . They all should just keep their mouths shut.
512mb of onboard flash memory included with the Wii =D
Steam both introduced and is the farthest in the online distribution of games... Just look at all of the games they have and the developers they have helped. Online distribution is truly something to be embraced by all companies. Think about the selection of games we will have!!!!!
Oh, come on, pretty much every company has said some prideful comment at one point or another, and you still do have to hand it to nintendo that they made a lot of the basic ideas for gaming that we take for granted (analog stick, for example).
But I do agree that representatives are a little to egocentric.
Alot of things nintendo did were from what the community and fans wanted to do because they thought nintendo would give them more fun and enjoyment instead of nintendo ripping off of Microsoft.
I am so exited with all this stuff about the ds hooking up with the Wii....well...I am exited about all of it but...anyway. I don't know if anyone besides me really play FFCC (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles) but it was the greatest multiplayer game in the world if you had 4 GBA's and the connecter cables. And since it is coming out for the Wii....maybe the ds will connect to it and with more people buying ds's and the fact that you can connect with Wi-fi it is going to be amazing! and....if nintendo does this internet thing right, it will be better than Xbox Live.
Ahahahah , I'm stupid... not really.. but ya know
