On a Wii no ma (video service) info video, Iwata took the time to spell it out for Sony: we're not in the closet, we're in the center of the living room.
Nintendo: Excuse me, it's not just ANY closet... it's Obama's.
Take it away, Iwata-san:
According to our internal research, 87% of Wii consoles are connected to the largest TV screen in the household, which is set in the center of the living room. Our consoles are not only out of the closet, they are also in the middle of the house. This shows what kind of our customers are playing Wii, as of January this year.
As you can see, Wii is played by people in a wide ranged of ages, and male-female ratio is nearly equal. As I have mentioned, Wii has spread with ages. Nearly 90% of the consoles are connected to the largest TV screen of the internet, video streaming or payment system has established through our videogame businesses.
Good on you for defending the Wii!

My Wii is connected to my television in my living room, but I haven't actually turned it on in months so I have to agree with Sony figuratively speaking.

I gave it to my sister who lives a few hours away after i got my mgs4 ps3.

these are all great games for both hard core and casual gamers my ps3 and wii sit right next to each other on my 32 inch hd tv the wii in 480p and ps3 in 1080i i play both of them frequently as for my 360 i threw it out it red ringed on me about 5 months ago i dont really care for it any way its games are all way to overrated

I never bought a Wii and everyone that i know of besides people that arnt gamers, like my grandmother and housewives love the wii. i wouldn't mind the Wii and i loved nintendo since the 8bit. but really 4 good games does not make me want to by that damn thing. Now with everything the PS3 have going for it, its really a no brainer. The Wii is a good party favor and Wii bowling is really fun but not enough to make me want to buy it. ***** THE 360, i love my Zune but if the PSP ever had the capability's of holding more then 2GB - 8BG without costing over $350i would use it for more then games like its meant for. Bottom line is do hate on the Wii because of nintendo hate it because of the casual gaming trend thats all they seem to support... and remember is really just a redesigned gamecube with a new controler, and that controller was meant for the cube. wow i'm done. play games no matter what their on. PS3. bed time

My cous has a Wii in the living room hooked up to a 18" SD television, but it's never played. My PS3 is nice in my room on a 46" 1080p TV, and it sees the most use. Actually my friends prefer NBA2k9 over Wii sports, Wii is never even a discussion around here. It might be a discussion in say 2018 when folks look back and say "remember that Nintendo thing we used to play?" Oh YEAH! Let me see if it's still in the CLOSET. Of course he needed a week to respond; ninty is busy counting money and discussing how they're gonna convince the same folk to buy Wii HD.

you can ***** all you want but the fact remains the Wii is ahead of competition, Nintendo's core games have surpassed the previous generation (Galaxy-Sunshine/TP is much bigger and more challenging than WW/Prime 3 is much better to play due to the controls and some of the worlds are jaw dropping) and since a good games needs a long development cycle, I would rather play De blob and Boom Blox waiting for the big guns. I am still struggling to find a solid reason to get a 360 since there are a ton of nearly identical shooters and "hardcore" games that are not that hardcore (duck-wait-get out-shoot till everything dies-move forward-rinse repeat)
The point is, if you have that much time to ***** about the wii, you are doing something wrong with your other consoles.
manhunt 2 should not even be considered a game. This is an interactive abomination that got all its hype for all the wrong reasons. Rockstar, just make another Body Harvest and cut all that crap making broken games with too much violence.
Just because its connected to the tv doesnt mean people are playing their wiis.
Its success is based on sales not good quality replayable games.

Right and I bet last gen you were also saying hardware sales didn't matter (when GC were not moving off shelves) and you were swearing washing dirt from the world with a waterpack was innovative and crazy fun. By the way, if you wanna talk about sales, why are they so stagnant right now for Wii? Let me guess. The next Zelda, Mario, Metroid will change that and the ENTIRE WORLD will be playing those games? Hah, I'm betting that userbase already has their Wiis, sorry sir. Sure let's forget that there are OTHER GAMES BESIDES NINTENDO, and some of us may be enjoying those (Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, Valkyria Chronicles). You're partially right, I am doing something wrong, but I'm also doing something right. That being paying off this $300 internet bill so I can get off this WIFI and play some damn Street Fighter 4. Look it up, you'd be surprised there are other companies who we believe publish BETTER GAMES FOR OUR DIVERSE TASTES. Understood? And I'm pacing myself on Valkyria Chronicles, awesome game.^^

you can bet anything you want but I was not happy by many big GC games and I turned to the PS2 library which had too many games lacking on the gameplay department. You got to realize some people prefer other games than you (probably older than you as well) but I don't ***** about other consoles ESPECIALLY when they sell better than the one I like.
MY point was that Nintendo DO make good games, BETTER than last generation and sadly they play much better than many games of the competition. Also you mention games I have played somehow in the past. SF4 is a mix of SF3 and SF2 with some minor tweaks, Resi5 is an easier version of resi4 in arfica and valkyria chronicles is not really a game to justify the purchase of an entire console. Yes the graphics are great and all that but the game you mock that well, is much more innovative game than any of the above.
I am playing games for too long to tolerate playing the same game again so I am more eager to try out new concepts like boom blox than a prettier version of ocarina of time (which is a great game, just it feels too familiar) and the Wii IS filled with experimental games and unorthodox designs. This is a console for the casuals and for those who really know what they want to play.
as long as there are gamers like the one above, there will be badly made "hardcore" games. This is even worse than the Wii shovelware.

I was reading the articles above and kept thinking - they aren't the only good games! I would have to list Boom Blox and De Blob in there as well. Obviously I am not the only one who thinks these unique games are great. Thakns for bringing them up. Obviously thoses listing "good" games haven't really tried ones designed for the wii platform instead of just sticking to generic types. BTW I do agree with the initial comment that Wiis are in the closet.

The Wii is connected to the biggest tv at my house. I leave it unplugged because the 1W standby usage really isn't worth leaving on for the few times each year the system is turned on.

payment system. yes, Nintendo has a payment system. so? Even that is jacked up; Wii points and DS points and not interchangeable .
Nintendo is losing it. The DSi is a miserable failure. Both the DSi and Wii have rows of unsold units littering store shelves everywhere. Why does the DSi cost $40 more than the DS lite? Oh yes, Nintendo wants early adopters to pay for launching their DS download service.

First of all, to anybody whose played both, both RE4 + 5 are "easy". Again, fanboy in denial. I'm sure no matter what game I say is good, you'll shoot it right down with your comparisons to "innovative" games like De Blob lol. I was using Valkyria Chronicles as a minor example of SEVERAL games that are out there but your ignorance has blinded you to. And if you're going to say De Blob is better than anything of that "innovative" style you so love. How about Flower or PixelJunk's games, even Braid on XBL. I'm not interested in those games however. The way you loosely throw around the term innovative, I swear you sound like some Ninty exec. haha.

I think you're agreeing with me here, since I did say people have diverse tastes. My point is sir, the Wii is just the butt of jokes because many of us who have them, often realise the Wii-motes are rather useless. Most games are sometimes played better without it. Makes you wonder what was the point of purchasing a GC 1.5? Heh, I'm not "biatching" about the Wii, it's just fashionable to make fun of it, after all Ninty is charging people to do things inside that can be done outside for free. More power to them, if it means you get to play Mario Sunshine 2: Let's clean those potty mouths and brush your teeth with a Wii-mote. Really then how is it that the software you mentioned can't even break into 100k units sold? I'm sure 50 million Wii owners are just CRAZY like me cause' we're not stacking lego blocks and playing rip offs of Katamari games.
People who have the Wii that play it play it. People who have the Wii and don't play it don't play it. That's pretty much it.. And honestly, Sony shouldn't bash Nintendo by saying it's in the closet.. It was purchased, right? That automatically means it achieved its goal - to be purchased by a consumer.
And at HitDyl - I like some of the games.. I like the VC .. I like the homebrew .. The Wii is something I bring to my friends' houses that are girls and don't play games, something I bring to my cousin's house for parties. The other consoles I bring over houses to usually beat a campaign or do some one on one, but the Wii simply beats everything when it comes to pure fun competition
Sony, MS and Ninty will always trash talk. However at least I can say Ninty doesn't do the middle school thing like MS and blatantly trash certain games the way they did KZ2. Sony has a point to their comments because the Wii attach rates are atrocious despite 50 million consoles out there. Don't take the stuff so seriously, it's all just fanboy fodder, and really you should be upset Ninty isn't making any promises to its core userbase who want new Zelda games and such. Good for you and your Wii. I mainly use mine with Wii Fit to bring over to a ladies house so I can watch her GET BUSY WITH THAT HULA HOOP. Allllllllllll riiiiiiiiiiight . :)

Nobody here is saying there aren't good games on Wii. But aside from Ninty games the quality is lacking. It's just fun to poke fun at sometimes, because honestly it isn't doing what it was initially advertised to. Also the homebrew thing I can really live without, and my PS3 doesn't need as I can watch and listen to virtually anything from my PC on it. Oh and you forgot Tatsunoko vs Capcom from that list. :)
