Link's Crossbow Training from Nintendo is another innovative take on next-gen console gaming with the use of the Nintendo Wii peripheral Wii Zapper. But the Zelda-inspired game has already been released in North America and Europe last year. So what is it doing in the latest Iwata Asks interview series of Nintendo head Satoru Iwata?
As it turns out, Japanese Wii gamers had to wait until May to get their hands on Link's Crossbow Training. Thus, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is providing them with more details to get excited about the game. Who else to turn to to spark excitement than Super Mario's creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
Miyamoto describes Link's Crossbow Training as an introduction to the First Person Shooter (FPS) genre, seeing as he is a fan of the genre. (See videos of the game in action here.) Miyamoto then reveals that he originally proposed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as an FPS which surprised Iwata.
But then Miyamoto adds that Link was introduced so there was a need to make the child hero be seen, scrapping the FPS proposal.
The interview between the two video game VIPs were very extensive and you should read it for yourself. Among the topics covered by Miyamoto are the history of both Link's Crossbow Training and Wii Zapper and also the Terminator inspiration. You can read the interview over at the via link.
