Sony PlayStation 3 - Image 1Putting more faith in the console which they proclaimed to be a "great bargain", research firm iSuppli released another statement in favor of Sony's PlayStation 3. They say that the next-gen console will enjoy the biggest growth in installed base by the end of this year.

Here's iSuppli's predicted sales numbers for this year: Sony's PlayStation 3 will score about 10 million units, with the Wii still gaining the upper hand with 12.2 million units. Microsoft's Xbox 360 will net a sales of 7.5 million.

While the PlayStation 3 still won't overtake the current casual crowd favorite, the Nintendo Wii, it still indicates a big jump in terms of hardware growth. With games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy Versus 13, Sony may look forward to a brighter future for its console this year.

Sony can only hope. If it accomplishes this, it's a good thing. If they can't, shows how stupid they were.

» let's assume Wii/360 don't sell a single unit in 2008 at all...

PS3 got about 7 Million sales to catch up with 360 and a whooping 11Miliions (which means more than ALL the units PS3 already sold at this moment) sales to catch up with Wii

The 360 number might be off since I bet you quite a few % is due to the RROD and some ppl have to buy another unit after warranty expired get it temp fixed for $40 then sell the older unit on 2nd hand market.

Yeah I have no doubt PS3 is closing the gap for sure... how big of a gap are we talking about here and how much it is closed? One thing for sure.. most ppl will end up getting all 3 units in time.

The only thing that would trigger PS3 to suddenly sell extremely well is probably if they allow somehow some hope of it being modable. Look at PSP... how many out of the 31M is actually sales for someone getting a PSP and play an legit game? (same goes for NDS, Wii, 360... just not as intense)

» FF13 is for 2k8 now? LOL yeah right

No square-enix games for 2k8, that's for sure.

And I'd say that those numbers are possible, but I'm sure x360 will sell better than that. I mean, 1/16 x360 breaks in less than a year, so all the people who bought it before the extended warranty will maybe buy another one, and anyway with lost odyssey, x360s will sell a bit more in japan. For the wii, it's a normal number, but I'd say it's because the big titles already popped for this year, like super smash bros. And for the ps3, I'd say it's hard to tell, maybe less, maybe more. I mean, BIG titles will pop, but the sales may depend a bit on MGS4's rating, lol. (hoping for a 10, I'm a fan of MGS games) I suppose that we'll see MGS4 ps3 bundle, like we saw devil may cry 4 bundles (not official ones, I'm talking about bestbuy bundles and others), and with a price around the x360's, the ps3 might sell pretty well (no super big title for x360 this year).

In the end: DUNNO! lol. Nobody really know how things will do, not even those guys who're paid for this...

» Not All Three

The only people who will have all three are 360 owners who want hi-def disc for their movies. People with PS3's probably aren't going to buy a 360 for halo 3 + halo wars. I have a PS3 and a Wii, i really don't see a need for the 360, or the Live charge.

By the way, I have 2 psp's one hacked on not. So I'd say maybe half, are use for strictly legit purposes. But you got to remember the psp offers remote play, internet radio, movies on the go, and the ability to hook it up to a TV. If you have wi-fi at work, it could save your life. I hook mine to the tv in the break room, use remote play and watch any movie on my cpu's hard drive.

Never get any information at VGchartz, and one they are never consistent with the number and are biased.

@Datnizzle

Thats not true at all, i have a PS3 and my sis has a Wii and i plan on getting 360 for Halo 3 alone with Ninja Gaiden 2 and possibly Dead or Alive, and Lost Odyssey.

And there is plenty of PS3 owners or people like me who plan on getting all 3 systems, even though we had been with the PS brand for years, my sis has hers and i play with it so i also count it as mine.

Maybe not the Die-hard PS fanboys but people like me who are really consumers and like playing games will get all three. Not all PS users are fanboys, some are actually more like consumers and like the other systems.

Anyway interesting prediction, but i don't think its going to play out like this, at least not number wise. You may very well be surprise what MS and Ninty may have up their sleeves. I mean MS hasn't really told us their whole like-up for 08 they may have some huge guns.

Same as ninty. Im not being biased here, im just interested in games to play really.

» that's stupid

I can't pay $400 - $500 (including games) to play two games. You might think that makes me a fanboy. But I think it proves I'm not stupid. Two games is no reason to own both a 360 and a PS3, most games are on both. You plan on getting a 360 for a game that came out 4 months ago, but you ain't got it yet. You love being a comsumer, buy that *****. If i make an investment like the one current consoles require, I'm going to make sure I use the damn thing for more than 2 games. That's why you don't have one your parents know it's a waste of money.

Kids want everything, that's why you have parents to tell you no.

People that spend their own money know what I mean, those that have both systems have more than 2 games for each of them. Now if you own a 360 but want a blu-ray player, I could see paying an extra $50-$100 to get a ps3. stream my movies from PC and have a Blu-ray player with software updates.

what gave you any indication that my parents by me money, or my sister. Im 21 my sister is 24 We buy our own things and i understand your point, but your make it out like everyone who uses their money for games doesn't get 2 systems. I haven't gotten the 360 not cause my parents thought it was a waste they don't care they aren't paying for me, but its just one the 360 wasn't reliable as when i was going to get it, and two i too help out with the bills at the house and i have a cell phone and and such. So two things gets in a way. I put away at least 10 dollars out of my check towards a 360 and im at $200 now, i want the Premium or pro one, that has the Hard-drive in it.

So before you think im some poor kid learn to understand the people here, im adult i pay my for my own stuff. In fact i know a friend who is 34 years old who actually has a 360 and PS3 who has a $hit load of games for it, it does help he's a doctor and most of them are un-opened. Again don't speak for 9 + million PS3 owners, cause not every is is like that.
