Infendo: Nintendo to monopolize gaming again? |
Listed in: PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 Tags: Microsoft, NES, SNES, Sony
Ó
An article posted on Infendo ran a discussion on the prospect of the Wii, and in effect Nintendo, going monopolistic as it did in the NES era and taking over the gaming world. The article pointed to the weakening sales of main rival Microsoft Xbox 360 and altogether dismissed the significance of Sony's PlayStation 3 in this generation's console war.Pointing to the successful marketing and innovations of the Wii while highlighting the decline in Xbox 360 sales, the article imagined Nintendo's hot-selling console rolling out in all directions and flattening everything in its path. The reports of Nintendo publishing 124 first-party games in 2007 seemed to suggest to the author that an encore of the SNES days may be at hand.
The article went as far as comparing the Xbox 360 to the iPod, saying "Apple's iPod rollout -- a product which sold at the time for more than the Xbox 360 -- it had sold nearly 30 million units. Microsoft is struggling to achieve less than half that." The article concludes that the Xbox 360 may very well be "2007's house of cards."
There are a lot of other interesting points raised by the write-up which you may want to read for yourself. We won't make any judgments regarding the ideas expressed, though we would like to point out that iPods and Xbox 360s are two very different products that cater to distinct crowds. You may own both, but it's not likely that you bought them for the same reasons.
And what about each console serving niche crowds categorized by age groups? You be the judge of that. Follow the read URL and tell us what you think.

That's very possible, after all 99% will most likely end up being a party/mini game type game, as if the Wii needs any more party/mini games.

The only thing that the other systems boast is "better graphics" which frankly, I don't really care about. I still love my playstation 2 the best, and my Wii is a close second. Actually I loved my dreamcast even more than my PS2 until someone stole it :(

Wii is on the brink of bursting microsofts 2yr head start in mere months time...due to the fact Wii is selling like hot sex and no one can seem to stop it.

It's that market that Wii will not touch. I am part of that market, most of my games are FPS, racing or sports, and any little dinky game experiences I want can also be found on Arcade.....so i'm not sure what this "infendo" website is smoking....maybe the biased pipe ???

I dont even like the PS3, but I agree that its going too far to discount it, and calling the 360 competition for Nintendo is just completely stupid. The 360 offers very different gameplay, such as online, and adult level games like dead rising. Nintendo does not cater to everyone's interest, so it will never "monopolize" the market. You have to be out of your mind to believe that.
That iPod comparison is also the babbling of an ideot. The gigantic difference between a 360 and an iPod is that with a 360, you need to the buy games at $60 each. The ipod on the other hand sold like candy back in its day, because it came out at a point in time where everyone was downloading MP3s for free on nappster. There is no question why the iPod was successful, and it wasnt for legit legal reasons.

The whole family play the Wii, but the PS3 is pretty much my domain since the games are'nt suitable/easy enough for my son and my wife won't ever play anything on it.
But let her loose on WiiSports and it's a different matter. In my opinion the Wii can live quite happily next to a PS3/Xbox360... Mind you the Wii seems a bit dry on the games front - my son plays Gamecube Pokemon on it!

Article is bias, but a fun read.

the xbox360 is a completely different product to an ipod, millions of losers waster all their money on ipods when they could have got the same thing for a third of the price with a different brand name on it, years before the ipod even existed. and the xbox360 is doing pretty well, the ps3 is slowly getting there.
The Wii was a great concept that was ruined by the decision that people dont mind if their games look like they were made in 1995, its called progress. Nintendo are making a massive profit on these stupid little Wii consoles, it wasn't about innovation, it was to regain some profits after they failed with an unsupported (though great) system the Gamecube, and I am sure the Wii will head the same way.
Thats my rant, and my two cents, and just my opinion. but true.

I happen to be in my 20's and I can still say that the "wii has kiddy games". you know why? cause it's true. Yes, there are big people games, but there are a LOT more 'kiddy' games available.

Instead of making the motion sensor controlls as an add-on to their GameCube, when 1: It wasn't popular, 2: Not all games would include the controller, they came up with making a new GameCube with internal motion sensor controller. It's more or less the same machine, just slightly buffed(really slightly) and repacked.
And this action is of course GENIOUS! Now they're the fastest selling "next-gen" console on the marked with 7 year old technology. It's one of the best sales tricks I've ever heard of.
This being said. The Wii is fun, I admit. But the outdated graphics, outdated capacity on DVDs, I belive it won't last long enough to please the buyers. It will last until the end of course, but it won't lead until then.
What if PS2 didn't release Guitar Hero 2, just made an internal guitar and re-released PS2 calling it PlayStation Guitar, and it sold like hell! Same machine, but new name + internal controller. It's the same *****. ;)

So, no, the PS3 isn't dead. Not by a long shot. This Fall will give us a better indication of how well/not well the PS3 is going to fare, because many titles for it are due then.

The WeeCube IS a fad. 360 and PS3 games leave the Wee in the dust. If the Wee wins like this riduculous article predicts, then we as gamers are in for a sad future and our only option will be to spend thousands on a PC.
I hate the Wee more than any other system the Plumber has made b4.
What a joke, 7 year old hardware with a RF "motion controller" and stupid nieve people such as yourself buy this crap.
I understand that casual gamers will buy this crap and non-gamers too, but REAL gamers should shudder and do everything possible to support the 360 and PS3.
Frack the Plumber!!!
