Gamespot reports that IDG Expo executives and Gen Con founders are exploring the possibility of a joint show. The joint show would see the two events, Gen Con SoCal and GamePro Expo, share the LA Convention Center over the locked-down dates of IDG's still-to-be-given-a-proper-actual-this-is-really-it-rename, GamePro Expo, which is October18-20 of the next year.

Will this merger birth the convention to end all conventions? The IDG event expects to attract no less than 25,000 attendees that oh so want their morphed version of old school Vegas style E3. Gen Con, on the other hand usually attracts thousands of people who throw dice, write stats on paper sheets, move precisely painted figurines across mini-war-zones, dress up in robes carry lightsabers, declare that resistance is futile, and build competitive decks out of collectible playing cards.

Reports say that Gen Con still has a tentative agreement with the City of Los Angeles to hold its 2007 event in early November. That could all change if IDG and Gen Con decide to collaborate.

The biggest gathering of geeks ever? Booth-babes and cos-players in the same roof? Klingons playing demos of Square-Enix games? Oh the insanity!
