IBM to profit from console war |
Ó

It doesn't matter if Sony's PS3, Microsoft's Xbox 360, or Nintendo's Wii will be the top seller. IBM will win this console war. There really isn't a huge conspiracy behind this. Like any other war the guys who are selling the guns win. In the console war's case, it's microprocessors, not guns.
All three units use IBM microprocessors.
What's amusing about this is that as recently as 2004, IBM was struggling to attract work outside of chip-making just to cover the enormous cost of manufacturing. Now due to the game-deals they have with the big three, IBM is expected to see a whopping $3.7 billion in sales of chips and associated design services this year.
All the expected bling won't just come from the chips. Using the model IBM used for their consulting work for the big three, IBM formed a new technology-collaboration solutions unit that's expected to post US$ 4 billion in revenue this year. Internal projections call for that division to earn around US$ 10 billion by 2010 and US$ 20 billion by 2015.
Given IBM's tough competition in the PC world in the form of Intel, what IBM did is a smart sidestep. IBM's Bernie Meyerson had this to say: "Most folks are not aware, that gaming chips drive the frontiers of the industry, not general-purpose computing."

Yeah its right, that should be the reason for which Resistance doesnt drop below 30 fps during the entire game. Now beat that
First off you said BlueRay. Secondly it is a game console that is also a multi-functional multimedia powerhouse. It's going to have great games to play and still be able to do tons of other amazing things on top of that, which imo makes it well worth the price tag.
Like rd261 PS3 has proven with Resistance it can handle holding frame rates extremely well.
Heavy and huge... well if you count your giant power brick, and if you buy and HD-DVD attachment for your 360 it will be probably weighing more and be loose, cumbersome and heavy to carry.
Scratches easily... well apparently you didn't read the comments below that one article. The guy did that damage with a zipper. So don't go rubbing zippers on your PS3 is the bottom line there (no humpping).
They freeze from what people in stores say... well I haven't heard anything like that from anywhere else or from any of the gaming sites who have PS3s so I'd have to say your making that one up.
that may be true, but according to gamespot, TH Project 8 suffers from much worse framerate problems on PS3 than 360. load times are also no better, even though it uses the HD to cache.
Honestly they put no effort into the PS3 version of that game though. It's just a half decent port. I wouldn't look at portted games as the way to judge the PS3 but rather titles like Resistance and what not.
I mean if you want the biggest evidence of it overlooking the PS3. PS2 was the first console a Tony Hawk game went online with and on PS3 there is no online play even.
So all in all look at the exclusives for a real idea of what the system can do and handle.
