Ó

no QJ reader is complete without a copy of Street Fighter The MovieAlmost every major console has had a version of Street Fighter. Ryu and Chun Li have done roundhouse kicks on SNES, PSOne, PC, PlayStation2, Xbox, Xbox Live Arcade, and everywhere else imaginable. There are even rumors of a Wii Virtual Console incarnation of Street Fighter. So this news affects all of us.

Hyde Park Entertainment (the production company behind "Bringing Down the House", "Original Sin", and "Antitrust") and Capcom (you know who they are) are teaming up for a new Street Fighter movie. That's right. The Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue, um, blockbuster, will not be Hollywood's last word on Street Fighter (can I admit that I actually loved the movie?).

The writer for the new movie is Justin Marks. He wrote "Voltron" (that Japanese robot; the movie is set for 2008 or so). Uh, we don't know of any other movie he wrote. Sorry.

Hyde Park Entertainment will sell the project at the American Film Market. We imagine that's like a giant farmer's market, except instead of selling only ripe tomatoes, they also sell rotten ones. *nasty giggles*

The movie will focus on Chun Li. Our votes for Chun Li:
  • Ming Na (Ming Na Wen), who played Chun Li in the "Street Fighter: The Movie" and voiced Mulan in the Disney movie, the Disney videos, and Kingdom Hearts II. She was also the voice of Dr. Aki Ross in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
  • Any of the ladies from "So Close" ("Chik yeung tin si"). Either actress Qi Shu or Zhao Wei.
  • John Malkovich.

Most movies based on games suck anus and most games based on movies are the same, but not usually as bad. The first Street Fighter sucked, and after seeing the trailer for the DOA movie, I'm tempted to commit seppuku.

It's like they always totally disregard the plot for the games when they make movies and hire actors that never touched a joystick in their lives. Stupid, stupid, stupid. When will they learn?

I loved the Street Fighter movie, when I was like 10. My vote goes to Ziyi Zhang for Chun Li.

I would put big name stars in the movie. Truth be told they would'nt be able to help bring the movie up (how good can a movie based on 2d street fighting be). Lets see....

Ryu = Jet lee

Ken = Cristine bale

Guile = Leonardo dicaprio

Bison = George Clooney

Chun lee = Angelina jolee (via eye makeup to make her look more chinese)

Dasleme(sp?) = david blaine

Blanka = Frasier

Sagat = John travalota

Vega = Tom cruise

Ehonda = danny daveto

Akuma = Will farrel

And for added affect, add subzero played by David hasselhoff. Give me that and i'll watch it and enjoy it as much as i enjoyed the first... when i was 4.

If I directed a street fighter movie, it would be better than Street Fighter the Movier. That's how bad Street Fighter the Movie was. Now, it's time for them to redeem themselves. This better turn out great.
