How accurate is your Wii Weather?

Wii Weather

You guys gotta admit, among all the Wii Channels announced, the Weather channel is one of the least attention-grabbing ones. I mean, some of you guys were like "Meh...what else?" when we first announced that the Wii Weather is already up and running. It's good to know though that most of you hopped back on board when you found out that the Weather channel can be used with Madden. So what the heck does this intro have to do with today's post?

Well, some Wii users have been complaining that they're being a bit weathered down by the Weather channel. Why? Apparently, the channel takes a bit long to update (in some locations at least). Over at the IGN forums, some users in L.A., UK, and Spain have been experiencing a lag in updates, making the Weather channel (for lack of a better term) a bit useless.

But again, apparently, this does not hold true in all regions and countries. Some are also saying that their Weather channel is totally up to date, and that they haven't been experiencing any of the lags that some users are complaining about. So what's the deal here then? Could it be that Nintendo's "weather associates" for different countries differ in the efficiency of their reports?

Nintendo hasn't addressed this issue yet, and we have no idea whether this concern has been forwarded to them, but if what these users are saying, then perhaps this could use a little looking into. It's such a shame to see this nifty Wii feature go to waste, right? How about you guys? How's the Wii Weather at your region?

» Eh.

I would say about 80% accurate in my area..It said it would drizzle but it rained...meh, close enough.

» It's getting better

I'm on the East Coast of the U.S., and when it first launched it was about 8-hours out of date, and lately it's running at about a three-hour lag. So, it's gotten better.

It needs to be pretty instantanious, though, to really be useful. No excuse for it being more than a few minutes out of date, at most.

» time of day

mine says its night when its 1300 hours!

» Not too great

It updates about every 6 hours, so yeah it is kinda lagged for the UK, and even then, it doesn't have for the city I live in. The closest it has is Leeds, which is over half an hour away by car.

» In the UK...

The weather channel is really off, especially when I check the weather here in London. If I wake up in the morning and want to check the current temperature, I can usually only check what the temperature was (last updated at 3am)...I WANT THE CURRENT TEMPERATURE, IDIOTS.

» In the UK

I'm in Manchester and I only checked it for the first few days as no matter what time of day I checked it always said it was last updated 6am.

» bah

a weather forecast is just a horoscope with numbers.

and if you want to know what the current weather is like, just go outside.

» In The Netherlands

Minimal 8 hours out of date.

central canada, also seems to update every 6 or so hours for me. i'd use it if it was more recent, but my digital cable has the same type of feature and is usually up to the hour (just not as pretty as nintendo's).

» More UK Lag

In Scotland (and by reading more UK reports above) there's also a huge lag.

Rather weirdly, the "today" section of the weather is more up-to-date than the "current" section.

A bit off, don't you think?

» Too far...

The closest city that the weather channel on the wii to me is about 80 miles away, weather is not accurage in the least...

Nintendo needs to get something like google earth, now that would rock.

The weather channel stopped working last week. My Wii can connect to the internet, but for some reason, only the shop channel works.

Pretty useless feature.

I love the feature to be honest. In the morning, where its still dark and col (thus rendering 'look outside' useles) you cant tell what the weather WILL be like LATER. The channel is good, but i agree wholeheartedly, it needs to be updated more.hourly if possible. If news channels can do it....

» so it's free :)

I don't know exactly how accurate it is for me(live in Amsterdam).

But most of the time it's pretty accurate (atleast much better then the weather thing in OSX dashboard rofl)

But hey, we shouldn't be complaining the channel is free.

And spinning the globe around is kinda cool.

Yeah if we had to pay for the channel, then it should be accurate without 6 hours between the updates like you UK dudes

But "F" the weatherchannel back to Zelda TP

That's not really far enough for it to matter, weather-wise.

» Who Cares?

Who cares if the Forecast Channel sucks? Just use the Internet Channel and check the weather from a more reliable source.

shouldnt have to though,it does it for us,thats the point of the weather channel

Seattle - never updated correct. Time always says 10am

» ?

The Wii channel said the temperature was 7°-8° while it was snowing outside...

» Wii Connect 24

What peeves me is having to have the Wii Connect 24 AND the Standby Connection "ON" to get into the weather channel.

I still haven't found any benefits yet for having the Wii Connect 24 on yet. The Wii gets hot on the left side when it is on.

If I could just get into the Weather Channel without having to have the Wii Connect 24 on, I'll have more fun spinning the globe.
