Wii HomebrewChannel Beta8 works with 3.3 system update - Image 1

Some news today on the homebrew front. Over on the HackMii website, marcan has an update regarding Wii Homebrew Channel beta8 (you can download it here), saying that it should be safe to use with the Wii's 3.3 system menu update.

Marcan says that you should get a prompt like the one pictured above when you try to install the homebrew channel on Wii System Menu v3.3. Furthermore, Marcan notes the following:

As we have tested The Homebrew Channel with this new system menu, continuing installation at this point is safe. Please make sure you check with the usual sites to make sure any future updates are still compatible with The Homebrew Channel. This only applies to the System Menu 3.3, shown in the message as v22 <region]>.

It's certainly some good news, though we'll have to keep checking to see if it's compatible with future updates. That said, we'll be sure to report on any compatibility issues between Nintendo's System Updates and important Wiibrew apps in the future, so keep coming back for that, alright?

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

There's a lot of people out there not willing to install the HB channel for fear it might one day render their unit worthless. In the same way many jailbreak'ed iPhones stopped working after updating after running the jailbreak procedure.

A lot of people give Nintendo flack for being "worthless" in their attempt to stop HB but at the end of the day they made the pirate pool "that much smaller".
