Hironobu Sakaguchi gives moer details on The Last Story

A lot has changed since Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square, and now he's holding his own with Mistwalker, and for their latest title, they have the action-RPG, The Last Story. We've heard quite a bit about the Wii-exclusive game thus far, but now the great Final Fantasy creator himself steps up and talks about the game.

According to Sakaguchi, progressing through the game will be easy enough since you have characters that will guide you in your journey. Other quests, however, will require you to find them first. They're not too difficult to find, though, especially if you're familiar with the sidequest hunting from the Final Fantasy games.

Battles, though active in real time, can be pause with the Wiimote's (-) button. There will be weapons to obtain from the online mode as well, and each will aid you in battle depending on the difficulty that went in to acquire them. Upgrading the weapons you find online will also be upgradeable online as well.

The game is due January 27th only for the Wii, still no word about a Western release.
