Hideo Kojima Working on Snake's SSBB Stage?

Snake Stage

According to Nintendo Power, Hideo Kojima is working on the stage for Snake in the next Smash Bros. I think many people missed it because it's in an utterly pointless and boring argument between two Nintendo Power Staff members about who'll be better in Super Smash Bros Brawl (Snake or Pit), but something was said off-hand that's actually new. This wasn't even announced in the podcast by HideoBlog so I don't know where they got the info. It seems likely though and NP probably has some reliable sources seeing as they're much higher on the foodchain than any other news source for Nintendo!

Chris H: "[I]f you want to talk about something big, how about the news Hideo Kojima, Snake's creator, is designing Snake's level in Brawl? Snake's inclusion means we're not only getting one of the best characters in gaming, but one of the best developers as well."

Very interesting! Hideo Kojima working on a level in Brawl? Maybe he'll work on some other stuff too? He is, after all, one of the most respected designers in the game industry. He's right up there with Miyamoto!

That's interesting. but I doubt he'd be involved in other aspects. he is busy with MGS 4, and it's taking up so much time that he hasnt started ZOE 3, which he apparently wanted to do if it wasnt for MGS 4.

# Interesting, but...Guest 2006-07-28 13:52
Well, Hideo Kojima isn't really known for his level designs. But don't get me wrong. His level designs aren't bad or anything. But nobody ever says anything about how great the levels are, mostly just stuff like "He's a good storyteller".

But if it's true, it will undoubtedly add a layer of depth that stays true to the Metal Gear universe. Some "!" would be sweet.

And I'm pretty sure there will probably be a minigame for him, if only in between levels. Melee had "Adventure Mode" which featured stages akin to their character-counterparts, and Sakurai said he wanted to focus more on the single player mode this time around, so I'm sure there will be some sneaking going on.

"Hmm? What was THAT noise?"

Kojima is a workhorse and people don't realize that his level design is fantastic, many of his games push the power of their respective console to the limit. It's actually pretty funny, he's such a great story teller that everything else he does kinda gets overshadowed.
