Has the Guitar Hero series reached its peak? Is the market saturation too high? Activision doesn't care. In fact, they're still churning out Guitar Hero games, the latest of which is Guitar Hero: Metallica.

Game Informer landed a first look at the game recently, and the forumites at Score Hero were quick to post the details found in the GI article. Here's what's reportedly been confirmed so far:
  • Expert Plus - New Drum difficulty. It's a special difficulty for people with a splitter and two kick pedals. Not compatible with World Tour online Leaderboards.
  • DVD Style Content - Photos, set lists, fan club videos, rare live and behind the scenes footage
  • New tones - GHTunes is in the game and it offers up exclusive tones from James Hetfield's ESP Truckster guitar and Slayer's Tom Araya's ESP Bass.
  • Drum Fill Mode - New cheat that lets you play freestyle drums on songs using Metallica drum sounds.
  • Metallifacts - Watch performances of each track overlaid with Pop-Up Video style windows that points out trivia.
Score Hero forum member MacaqueOwnzU also posted the following partial list of songs:

James Hetfield - Image 1Metallica tracks:

  • Enter Sandman
  • For Whom The Bell Tolls
  • Fuel
  • Hit The Lights
  • King Nothing
  • Master of Puppets
  • No Leaf Clover
  • Nothing Else Matters
  • Sad But True
  • The Unforgiven
  • Wherever I May Roam

Tracks from other bands:

  • Alice In Chains: No Excuses
  • Bob Seger: Turn The Page
  • Judas Priest: Hell Bent For Leather
  • Kyuss: Demon Cleaner
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd: Tuesdays Gone
  • Mastodon: Blood and Thunder
  • Michael Schenker Group: Armed and Ready
  • Samhain: Mother of Mercy
  • The Sword: Black River
There will also be additional tracks from the Foo Fighters, Queen, and Slayer. The full track list is supposed to have a total of 45 songs, 60% of which will be from Metallica. I hope they put in more pre-Black Album songs too.

Guitar Hero: Metallica is tentatively slated for a Q1 2009 release on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.

yo.

I heard a while back that it's coming out Jan. 2009. No lie. Well, it might be a lie since it was a rumor, but I'm sure it was some high-profile source that I read it from. Seems plausible though. Why would it get delayed or anything? Only makes some sense.

wow.

Not to be a smartass, but why pay full price for this game just for some damn Queen songs? If you want that, just buy Rock Band 1 or 2 and download the Queen DLC. This game probably won't even have that many tracks from Queen. Probably not even enough to fill up a whole tier.
