GH III to have online feature - Image 1We don't know about you but for us, the beauty of the Guitar Hero series is the ability to rock on with a friend side by side. With that in mind, we've fancied time and time again how this rhythm-themed video game would fare online. Well, with Guitar Hero III (Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii), we're all about to find out.

Gaming site Pro-G recently spoke with RedOctane Co-founder and President Kai Huang. During the interview, the official confirmed that GH III will indeed feature an online component. The full interview is yet to be published so we can't ascertain if this involves all versions of the video game. Regardless, this is good news.

A few things, however, immediately came to mind the moment we learned about this. We have to admit that online play is not flawless, there's the occasional lagging. So, we were wondering how RedOctane can assure that this is not going to happen. We're talking about a song here - just a second of lag would totally distort its rhythm.

And if Wii users get this online capability, will there be a specific friend code for Guitar Hero? There are a lot of possibilities and questions now and we will update you as soon as we get word.

» about the lag

Well, a way they can fix that issue would be to let the song play locally on each persons console then just stream video of the other person playing on each console. That way, if the video of the person you are playing against lags then it wont mess you up because the song should still be playing in sync on your console. The bottom line is there is no way to assure no lag if your streaming the song or frets to each console.

» Ridiculous concept

Seriously. This guitar hero poop is driving me crazy. Nobody looks back at where it started, EVER! Play amplitude and frequency!!!!! Remember the online for those games? Not only were the songs faster, the multiple track system made it far more complex, plus with offensive powerups, there was just so much more going on than a single track. All guitar hero really is is just memorizing one single track, which is far simpler a concept. So, a simple game like Guitar hero could have lag when a far more complex game like frequency played flawlessly over the old ps network? Seriously.

» Spoken like a loyal Freq :)

Glad that someone remembers! I still have my copies of amplitude and frequency. I would've thought they'd have gotten more attention after GH's success(or at least an honorable mention). I mean, that's where the whole concept came from, and it's much more challenging. Online'll be just fine

Harmonix should get more credit than it does for coming up with the framework of the game 6 years ago.
