Guitar Hero III set for Wii, so is a challenger called Rock Band |
Ó
Nintendo fans have long been left out of the household phenomenon known as Guitar Hero I and II. They didn't get it on the GameCube, while PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 enjoyed the six-string riffs of Activision's classic peripheral-equipped game. Things are different now. The Wii is percolating and it looks as if the sky is the limit for Nintendo's wonder console. This prompted Activision to tap into the market craze and assure fans that Guitar Hero III will be on the sleek console.
The word is that Activision has a few exclusive twists for the Wiimote-driven game machine. They haven't disclosed details as of now, but what's tentative is that the Wiimote will likely hitch itself on the guitar peripheral of the game and incorporate movement as well as acceleration into the processed input. This would allow players to do stylish movements not only for show, but for gameplay reasons as well.
Harmonix, the team that developed the first two iterations of the franchise is no longer involved with this project, so fans of the first two games can expect some twists and new mechanics added to the core. Incidentally Harmonix was acquired by MTV and is also active in an Electronic Arts project called Rock Band which is supposed to be Guitar Hero's upcoming challenger.
Asked whether Rock Band will see action in the Wii, Harmonix CEO Alex Ricopulos said " We will, at some time, bring Rock Band to every [important] platform," adding, "I think the Wii-mote is something that holds enormous promise."
So, will we be seeing a battle of the bands on the Wii soon? There's a fat chance that we will. It really doesn't matter who comes out on top. Whenever there are a lot of good choices on the table, gamers can never go wrong. It's a victory for Wii fans. For more details on the upcoming music games, check out the URL.

I wonder if the production version will be anything like this. I actually rather like it, though I'm sure they can do better than this for the guitar design.

360 and the WII are really getting the best of ALL games now, looks like the expensive PS3 is finished..
