Guitar Hero Confirmed To Go Multi-Platform

Guitar HeroIn his keynote speech at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia XV Conference, CEO and chairman of Activision, Robert Kotick, confirmed suspicions of popular PS2 rhythm game Guitar Hero coming to other consoles as well. According to Kotick, Activision plans to publish a version of the title on "every significant new format" eventually.
Apparently, employees of retail chain GameStation had been informed about a Guitar Hero release on the Xbox 360 earlier this week, so this news was already more or less expected.

Developed by Red Octane, Guitar Hero was released last year for the Playstation 2 and garnered critical acclaim everywhere for it's clever re-invention of the rhythm game genre, letting players feel like true rock-stars with the guitar-shaped controller. A huge fanbase has already developed around the franchise, and Guitar Hero II will hit PS2's in November. Hopefully it won't be long then until we're indeed rocking out on our Xbox 360s, Wiis and PS3s.

I was wondering if we could play PS2 version on the PS3. The thing I am wondering about is are they going to make a PS2 controller port to USB for the guitar (all PS2 peripherals)? Since I am on the subject what about PS2 memory card data, how would you get your saved game to the PS3?

Wrong forum - this is a Wii one ;)

I think this is great news! I was gearing up for GH2 for my PS2, I'll wait now and see what the time frame is for the Wii version.

Before I begin: @3, I too didn't realize until just now (because I came here from the main blog), but it's the same article in all of the blogs, so we all came here from different places. Honest mistake, though.

I wonder if the Wii and PS3 ones will require external contrommers. With the shape and the position of the buttons/d-pad, I can see the Wii controller as a pick for an air guitar. The PS3 controller has similarly helpful button/d-pad placement, but I can't really guess whether the shape will work out - I'll have to see it.

Yeah, the graphics won't make much of a different with Guitar Hero, but controllers will be interesting. I wonder if they'll integrate the WiiMote into the design? The 360 and PS3 will obviously require a completely new accessory like the PS2 does, but the Wii might have something to put the WiiMote in or something? You know, make it so you have to move the guitar like a rock star ;)

Making a fool of yourself during a party is what the Wii is all about! I can't wait ^_^

Exactly what I was thinking, Rushan. I've never played Guitar Hero myself, but I'm basing my ideas on what I know.
