Guitar Hero 5 platforms confirmed, details strum in: partial set-list, versus mode, more info |
Ó
Wondering what Activision's got in store for Guitar Hero 5 to make it a cut above the rest of their games in the series (and Rock Band)? Well, I've been wondering too. What else can they add to spice up the gameplay anyway? Here's hoping we get to settle some band disputes, care of a recent press release.
Before we get to the music sheet of details, first up: the platform releases have been confirmed. Neversoft will be doing the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, Vicarious Visions working on the Wii, and Budcat on PS2. As for the new info, here they are:
- You can customize your band with various combinations of four instruments - meaning you can have two guys doing guitar and two on the microphone, or say... three guys all on drums and one on bass. How or why you'd have three sets of drum peripherals, I wouldn't know.
- New mode: Party Play. anyone in the room can pick up any instrument and jump in or out of the song "seamlessly"
- New mode: RockFest. A versus mode which includes 5 game types, all of which will be playable online or offline
- All tracks in the game's set-list are unlocked at the get-go.
- All DLC from Guitar Hero: World Tour will be compatible with GH5.
- Confirmed artists so far (the total will be 85 artists, not counting future DLC):
- Kings of Leon - "Sex on Fire"
- The Rolling Stones - "Sympathy for the Devil"
- The White Stripes - "Blue Orchid"
- Santana - "No One to Depend On (Live)"
- Vampire Weekend - "A-Punk"
- Tom Petty - "Runnin' Down a Dream"
- Johnny Cash - "Ring of Fire"
- Bob Dylan - "All Along the Watchtower"
- There will also be 25 other artists new to the rhythm game bandwagon making their debut to the genre with GH5.
The press release doesn't mention any release date. The initial announcement of Guitar Hero 5, however, lists this (and DJ Hero and Band Hero) with a fall 2009 window.

Ring of Fire is one of several Cash songs I tend to sing along too anyways so would love to play that in this game. I haven't actually bought any GH or Rock Band games as of yet. Only one I've played was Guitar Hero 3 on my friends Xbox360. The price of needing to get game specific controllers like instruments or lightguns always puts me off on my current budget.
I know what you mean, i had guitar hero 3 (wii) and ended up buying an extra guitar (~$170)
Then i got a ps3, and guitar hero world tour came out and i bought it ($160)
im kickin my self in the ***, i spent so much money on RB for my 360 and loved it between DLC and the drums and etc.. now im looking to sell my 360 cuz it sits collecting dust while i use my ps3 more...
Call me when they actually wise up and do what Harmonix did. Harmonix isn't releasing a new Rock Band game every year with no new features. Sure, Rock Band Unplugged is coming, which is cool, and there's the Beatles, but the Beatles exists because the Beatles didn't want their music as DLC in RB.
I can already guess that it'll have some *innovative* new features, not random BS such as "RockFest" (which is the same thing as the Versus and Competitive modes that have always been there, just renamed) and "Three Drumsets LOL OMG SO AWESOME" mode.
I mean, honestly, Harmonix, rather than release 5 editions of GH every year, simply releases a hell-load of DLC every friggin week. And they're most *good* songs, not 100% mainstream crap like in GH. Activision just screwed up when they turned GH into another Madden. You can call me a Harmonix fanboy - but I state the facts.
guitar hero smash hits, guitar hero van halen and now guitar hero 5. jesus christ i hope they go bankrupt like midway did.
