If you're allergic to indented text then steer clear of this post. However, if you're interested in a God of War II devs take on Kotaku and how the comments made were taken a bit too seriously, then do read on.

Last February 22, 2007 Kotaku ran a story on how Cory Barlog found the fun factor of the Wii to wearing off a bit too fast. Kotaku quoted this bit said by Barlog:

Here are some pics of the sweet wii...though I must be honest it was not everything I had hoped it would be. It was fun...but the wow factor wore off fairly quick. The one game I wanted to play, Trauma Center, was definitely a bit of a let down. The wiimote was woefully inaccurate and sapped the fun of the game.

The Wii sports golf and bowling was cool...the boxing is freaking terrible though. In the end I hope to see some cool games come out of it, though it has me worried that the whole "what new thing can you do with the controller" fad will wear off after awhile and I will have left is a much slimmer wireless gamecube. Though the GameCube gave me some great gaming moments so I am not all that bummed. I am still happier playing Zelda on my Gamecube...maybe I am just a luddite like that. Who knows?

Kotaku ended their report with this line: He did like how well designed the actual console was and "petite". Needless to say, raving and rabid Nintendo fans were immediately on Cory's case.

Since Barlog found it difficult to sign up for Kotaku and get his rebuttals to the heated comments posted, he just made use of his Blogspot account. He starts of his post by saying:

First let me say I am not so quickly judging and writing off the wii..I am just saying what I played was not doing it for me. I think it is a good system...I just did not get bowled over with a sense of "Oh my god this is the future."

He then goes on to say that he doesn't own just one console, and he digs each one, so that pretty much negates accusations of him towing the company line. He says that the Wii is a great social machine, but when he wants to sit down and get sucked into a long game session, he just won't be playing with a Wii, at least with the way the Wii is at the moment.

He emphasizes that his working for Sony has nothing to do for his feelings toward the Wii. He notes:

Oh...and yes I work for Sony....they sign my checks and I have a ps3 that I love...and I am playing the hell out of Resistance. When I can get some good sticks I am going to get VF 5 and play the hell out of that. I use the Blu-ray player a ton too...cause Haunted Mansion in HD RULES!!!! Ok so I am kidding about that...but the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven on Blu-ray is great. And I fucking love my 360...I love it. I really hated most of the launch games save for Condemned...but now there is some good stuff (Gears,Oblivion, Dead Rising, Lost Planet...bad story but fun game)...so stick that in your towing the company line pipe and smoke it!!!

As of this writing Cory's Barlog's comments and rebuttals are already up on the Kotaku article. If you wish to read Cory's initial musings on the matter, our "read" link below should lead to his blog post.

Nintendo does make some great games, but they didn't invent something that was soooo revolutionary with the Wii. You could do nearly all the Wii Play with the PS2 Play/Play2 eyetoy package. Nintendo is just better at marketing their console as "educational" for those uptight parents who must have something that's "educational" for their kids to play.

Don't get me wrong. I've loved my nintendo systems and games, but they need to come up with something better than the Wii mote if they expect to survive (their story lines and game play is top notch!).
