Ghost Squad: More details from producer Yosuke Okunari |
A spiritual successor to Virtua Cop (VC)? This appears to be one of several notes that popped up in a recent interview conducted with Yosuke Okunari, the creative producer for Sega's (and AM2 for that matter) upcoming Ghost Squad (GS) shooter game for the Wii. In a sit-down talk with the IGN crew, Okunari-san explained GS' similarities and differences with VC:The world setting itself has no direct relation, but GS allows you to use the virtua guns and costumes of VC as a fun element. Moreover, while handguns were used in VC to enjoy accurate shooting, GS will feature machine guns to pursue ease of shooting and exhilaration. You can acquire various bonuses depending on where and how you shoot, so the advanced players who prefer accurate shooting can also enjoy the game. As described, the story is not a continuation, but GS could be said as a successor of VC in terms of the game system.
Okunari also shed more details on the game's control scheme for the Wii, stating that players only needed the Wiimote to play. This setup is hoped to mimic the arcade version's control scheme. Control features exclusive to the Wii port include use of the Wiimote's vibration and sound features.
In case you guys were asking, here was Okunari's explanation on why Sega decided to port GS to the Wii, instead of its other light gun titles:
Ghost Squad is not a series title, but we thought it would be perfect for our first challenge on the new hardware. And we also think the depth of the game is suited for home video games. Of course, Sega still has a lot of very attractive gun shooting games and in my personal opinion, I think we should continue releasing them on Wii. However, I can not tell you about our future plans yet.
Expect Ghost Squad to arrive in North America and Europe this Holiday 2007, at an expected retail price of US$ 49.99. Also up ahead are a couple of more game screenshots for the game's English release - enjoy!
