GH drum kit made over for Guitar Hero 5?

A source for Engadget sent out this image of the supposed made-over version of Guitar Hero's drum kit. Said to be launched in time for Guitar Hero 5 (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii), it looks less bulky -- and more like Rock Band's drum kit.

Guitar Hero drum kit - Image 1

                                                Before                                                      After

If you look closely, the more obvious changes would be the transfer of the control console from the tip of the drum kit to the other end, right in front of the drummer. Apart from that, the shape of the cymbals had been remodeled from the inverted fan form to the regular round-shaped ones.

What you don't see even if you magnify your zoom to the max is the presence of three mini ports at the back: two for kick pedals, and one black mini jack for yet-to-be-seen purposes. Much like the one the Rock Band drum kit.

Be that as it may, the other mystery to all this is that Activision has yet to unveil this revamped version of the drum kit. If it really were supposed to be for the GH5, you'd think they'd get a move on the launch of this peripheral given that the game itself is coming out in just a couple of months.

We'll keep you updated on this one.

» I'm torn

I can't stand how there's GH and Rock Band. I'm torn over which one to choose. Rock Band 3 should be coming out soon and I don't know which is better. Can anyone help me here?

» guitar hero

seriously the better purchase. getting world tour with all the instruments is the best idea. that way if u want to you can buy rock band later without the instruments. the guitar hero ones have better compatibility for both franchises. i started with guitar hero, but then i found pic from guitar heros website showing what is compatible with what so i was glad i went that way and did not have to buy 2 sets of instruments. But really, they are basically the same game there is just less playing of the same song over and over again in guitar hero. it is my one complaint so far with rock band. if i want to play a song more then once i will, do not force me to on extra "gigs" to unlock more songs/tour locations.

» The Set List

Honestly man, I'd just wait until both games release their set lists before making the decision. That was my big influence for choosing Rock Band the last two years over Guitar Hero.

The other big thing for me was honestly personal preference. I always had trouble telling the difference between hammer on/pull offs and regular notes in Guitar Hero. Rock Band made it nice and easy for my eyes with different sized notes.

» @devi59 wow.. seriously?

Have you been living in a cage for the past 5 years? Ignorant much?

Everyone knows Harmonix created Guitar Hero. They ditched it after Activision bought it. Red Octane took over starting from 3. Harmonix started a new project -Rock Band. Huge Success. Guitar Hero tried to emulate Rock Band's experience with drums. Epic Failure.

Seriously man, ask any knowledgeable gamers and they will tell you the same.

Bottom line - dont even think about getting guitar hero. Unless you like paying 60 dollars 3- 4 times a year for their 'new' games.

» Rock Band gets my vote

-TONs of DLC at the moment and it keeps coming every week

-I like the bars better than the circles, i dont know why, i guess i find it easier to follow (in my opinion)

-I like the graphics better (dont like the cartoonish style of GH)

-Rock band doesnt make a new game every 3 months...

-Rock band owns! :) haha

» @acerious WOW... seriously?

i consider myself a knowledgeable gamer... and Guitar Hero is by far a better franchise than Rock Band. I don't care who makes it but Rock Band feels much more fake than Guitar Hero does as far as emulating the feeling of being a rock star, which in my opinion is the point of both games.

Don't call someone ignorant because of their opinion and don't clump me with your simply biased opinions. Knowledgeable gamers... seriously....

ROCKBAND!

and I agree with djman855555!

I'll take QUALITY(RB) over quantity(GH)...

» Rock Band, from a real rocker.

"Rock Band feels much more fake than Guitar Hero does as far as emulating the feeling of being a rock star, which in my opinion is the point of both games."

As a real musician (bassist of 10 years) and having played both GH and RB you sound silly saying that RB is "more fake". Even the note layouts in RB make more sense than GH ever has. And as someone stated earlier, the cartoonish look of GH doesn't help it any.

RB is the way to go, take it from a real musician.

» @Sublime

Hell yeah. RB's charts are actually accurate, and GH's charts often contain blatant overcharts just to make it harder, because Activision thinks that everyone who plays the game wants to miss notes due to said notes not making any musical sense.

Don't forget Band Hero and DJ Hero...

» I forgot about GH altogether

i am waiting for "The Beatles" Rock Band. it's going to be ten times better then any of the 30 Guitar hero spin off's.

Harmonix thought about....what band does no matter who you are....you know? Of course the number 2 most profitible rock band of all time!(Beatle's were #2, Paul McCartney's"Wings" is #1)

Not everyone like Aerosmith or enjoy's metal. Im saving my 60$ for RB:TB. i mean holy **** in the last 4 months two new GH games were released.

by weirdpeople - 2009-07-07 07:52
» ROCKBAND is better

i have bolth gh: world tour, rockband 1 and 2 and rockband is so buch better by far

by weirdpeople - 2009-07-07 07:55
» yeah TBRB will be awesome

Period its going to be awesomeness

by skidz - 2009-07-07 08:36
» Rockband

Harmonix are a team of musicians that just happen to also be game developers. They know what they are doing. Activision really don't care about the quality, as long as they make some money.
