Geoff Thomas for Scarface on the Wii: bloody, intense, M-Rated |
Ó
This time, it's producer Geoff Thomas spilling the beans of Vivendi Games' Scarface: The World is Yours. Without skipping a beat, Thomas relays to IGN how the adventure spanning the time just before frontman Tony Montana is gunned down is open-ended. If you've seen the movie, then you might be in for a surprise here.In the film, Tony Montana was killed by the army sent by the Bolivian drug lord, Sosa. But in the game, like a true hero, Tony Montana survives the ambush and manages to flee. Hence, the storyline of the game essentially revolves on the story of Tony's survival and his new thirst for vindication and revenge.
Expect that the challenges won't be easy, as you'll have to rebuild your drug empire, reputation and influence. All these you have to undertake in order to be powerful enough to face up to Sosa once again.
Sounds like a clone of GTA? Don't be too quick to judge. Thomas explains:
Scarface is, first and foremost, about delivering the experience of being Tony Montana. It's about revenge, excess, indulgence, and having the balls to take what you want... all of these features come together as well as they do because they resonate with the core of Scarface: The World is Yours, namely.. . 'What Would Tony Montana Do?'.
Now let's take a look at what he's got to say about the controls on the Wii. Basically, the IR plays an integral role in the aiming aspect of the game. As for the other motions such as camera control and shooting, that's taken cared of by the Wii Remote. The Nunchuk, meanwhile, is responsible for the character control.
"Hell yes you can!" This is the ecstatic response of Thomas when IGN asked if the weapons differ at all in Wii use, specifically with the chainsaw's ability to cut people up. You can be sure to have your hands full with the truckload of weapons at your disposal in this game. You've got shotguns, machine guns, rocket launchers, pipes, machetes, chainsaws... the works.
And although some from their own team are surprised that Scarface: The World is Yours was deemed acceptable by Nintendo for the Wii, it's certainly worth checking out how the Scarface experience will rack up the family-oriented console. "We haven't cut anything from the game. It's just bloody, intense, and M-Rated as other editions of the game. It just wouldn't be a Scarface game if we sanitized anything, and from what we've seen, Wii owners are clamoring for this kind of experience."
So, with the game all set to come out this summer, might as well prepare your smooth moves so you can suavely yell, "Say hello to my little friend!"
