GameStop's reaction to PS3 can affect all consoles |

Okay folks, let's keep this topic as civil as possible and not resort to fighting between Sony fans, Microsoft fans, and Nintendo fans. It isn't reassuring, but it also isn't surprising given the history of this latest generation of consoles. According to an Ars Technica post, GameStop managers weren't wowed by Sony's presence at their GameStop sales conference. One manager claimed, "Sony just didn't seem like they had a plan with the show. No plan at all. Barely a mention of the PS3, and almost nothing playable." It's sobering news to think about, but GameStop managers are thinking the PS3 will not launch very well, given all the recent news on it, from the European delay to the overheating fiasco at TGS.
Now, before the fanboys start taking out their virtual knives and gutting each other online, you have to remember that each of the three console makers have had their own issues, so Sony's current woes are somewhat reinforced by previous bad press from other companies. For instance, everyone remembers the whole Xbox 360 launch, where there weren't enough units, and a number of them went kaput after a few hours, right? There is also Nintendo's problem of previously being imperialistic, a trouble which they are trying to remedy now in their marketing approach and optimism.
While we can't vouch for any system as to their intentions for the future, it's evident that they all share part of the blame when it comes to bad news, and whether its one console or another that gets the press, future impressions of any and all consoles will be colored by the things we've picked up in the past. If they really want business to pick up and for bad press to not happen, then each company better make good their plans and promises. Otherwise, as the GameStop folks seem to feel, the future of gaming may actually be a little darker than we'd like it to be.

If their profits were to weaken, it would not be on the console makers, but on their craptastic service.
I also don't have any hardware fears with Nintendo. Most of their products are pretty indestructable under normal circumstances. They already plan ahead with children dropping them and heaven forbid throwing them.
Sony has always had hardware problems, I felt lucky that my PSP at launch was perfect and still have not had any problems. But I admit that they aren't made for normal gameplay, I confess, I dropped my PSP, but it fell a grand total of 5 inches. From my hand to the table, and the side of the casing cracked. I was pissed, it's nothing big, but when you pay 250 dollars and you feel that "wound", you want to kick your own ass and hate that a more expensive system would have been built more sturdy.
As for the 360 launch, that was a nightmare. More work should have gone on to fix the heating problems. I don't think Sony will have as many errors as the 360 on launch, but they won't have to have many errors to hurt them. With 400,000 only coming to the US on launch day, even a small amount will overshadow the already small number of consoles.
Lets just hope no one gets hurt that November weekend trying to secure a PS3 or Wii.

The best way to make competition better and to lessen bad press is by each of the companies making sure that they say promises they can deliver.
It's a lot healthier for gaming in general if their competition is they all do what they can to make a positive impact and maintain it, rather than faliling to live up to their own hype machine and trying to spin it.

Dear "ha" and " I LIKE SUCKING PINEAPPLES", face it: the PS3 isn't nearly as bad as you'd like it to be and spent your last few months bad-mouthing.

"And how does this affect me moving the boat?" (An in-joke that means this has absolutely nothing to do with me.)

Take Test Drive for instance, you turn it on and bam! Just online. I can browse through my home network and access my music, or even hook up my Zen mp3 player and it'll start playing my songs.
Now I'm expecting PS3 to give me that as well, but that's next gen ladies and gentleman. I'm enjoying my 360, and I am getting a Wii on day 1. PS3 will have to wait, nothing interests me on launch, what does I can get on 360, and I'd like for Sony to have to price cut.
I'm a gamer. Any real gamer doesn't bash the systems, merely reflects on their flaws but applauds their unique points. The 360 isn't a failure, it's doing damn good. And it will still do damn good when PS3 and Wii come out. Be grateful we have so much options this generation.

Basically, this will be an M$ X-Mas. Look at the numbers and they wont lie. 360 is now in more regions then just the big three, exclusive football games in Europe (even if the PS3 launched there, it is a huge blow) Wii is a great system, just not on par graphically, and wont have the 3rd party support in the end because of the uniqueness of their controller.
As far as GameStop not mattering...
GameStop/EB Games is the #1 game retailer in the world. Bigger then Wal Mart, and that gives you power. When you have the power, people listen. Sony would be using their game register software (letting only the game you bought and played work on only that PS3, basically no used/borrowed games for the system) run on US PS3's. GameStop let Sony know that used games are a huge part of system sales and the trade in process leads to new game release sales. If Sony implimented that software in the PS3, GameStop couldn't sell it.
Used games will now work in the US PS3. So I guess, GameStop does matter.

We do not have to realize or recognize the fact that Gamestop is a major player in the retail industry, yes retail, not video game industry. We will always have other options. Bullying people into reserving/ buying a product is not a practice people are going to buy into for much longer.
"Viphid"
Gamestop is not yet larger that Walmart. Your district manager, or maybe even Bill Chin told you that at conference. It's just not true. When you build a store on every corner in the US, you will sell a higher quantity. Too bad the profit margin takes a hit because of such a large overhead.
I respect the fact that your a company man. But regurgitating all the $#!+ that you are s***** fed by that said company doesn't make you knowledgable.

How bout you don't get ANY PS3's at your store??? Sony is perfectly fine letting Best Buy, Walmart, and Target (etc.) sell the consoles for them.
What's with this company??? They make money off the PS3... Sony is doing them a favor by allowing them to sell the consoles in their stores!!! Ingrates...

If so, then why are they saying that the PS3 is going to flop. In my opinion, I think that the PS3 will do well, so will the Wii, and that Nintendo and Sony has been in the gaming business WAY longer than Micro$oft has, so they have more experience. Look at the Playstation 1 and the Playstation 2. Both editions sales, and custiomers satisfaction was great. Nintendo is a great company too, and even though the GameCube didn't do well, that is just one of the FIVE consoles they have made, and I am sure they are gonna learn from their mistakes and suprise everyone with the Wii. The only company I think will flop is Micro$oft. It hase that big ass brick power supply, and just comes with a normal DVD drive, have to pay, like, $300 more to upgrade to HD-DVD, so thats like the price of the PS3 Premium. And if you bought the Premium Xbox 360, then your paying $700 hundred dollars total, to be able to play those HD-DVD

So you will be forced to pay that much to play a game only released on HD-DVD. OR you can get a Wii or a PS3, and have the Wii's virtual consoles to relive the old days, or the PS3 and have the awsome cell processor and the the backward compatibillity with the PS1 and The PS2 and being able to play DVD's and Blu-Ray Disc's, and the internet and stuff, both versions coming with a hard drive!!! AWESOME, PS3 for me please.
Sorry for the double post, and the long post, I messed up on the 1st one

Actually, Sony has been in the business one generation longer than M$, unless you count PC....
I dont mean to start a flame war, but if your going to bash or promote ANYTHING, at least SOUND like you know what your talking about...

Hence, the word Nintendo. He was talking about Nintendo and Sony, then leading to the systems they have made already.
You, sir, are wrong.
