Gamestop and EB don't want opportunistic employees |
Ó
According to a post on Joystiq, the heads of EB Games and Gamestop really don't want their employees to be abusing their privileges. Apparently, they're tracking sales of the PS3 and Wii on eBay, and if they find out you're an employee doing it, you can kiss your job goodbye.
Now, this news isn't confirmed, so we're posting it as a rumor, but you have to admit the aggressiveness of such an attempt. Are they going to try and win random eBay auctions to catch potential culprits or keep digging for info on both bidders and auctioneers? That seems unlikely, but it would be best if Gamestop and EB games employees were hesitant to take advantage of their good fortune to make extra cash.
It probably isn't going to stop people from selling the consoles on eBay, but if a definite warning from the big bosses doesn't curb the enthusiasm of employees with entrepreneurial skills, then they must really want the money. Still, don't say we didn't offer our faithful readers a notice of such things. Don't get scammed, and certainly don't do things against company policy, all right?

First post. I even beat that Advertising 5 star comment.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I got owned. :(
gamestop employees do this all the time. They deserve to die.
I think they should be able to get 1 and do whatever they want with it. Its a lame job and one of the only perks is being able to get video games when they come out. I think its only fair they get ONE ps3/wii and can play it, sell it, or whatever. Now I am not sure how many employees should get ONE, but maybe they should have to have the first 2 go to seniority for 1st wave and 2nd wave employees get another 2 etc. I would just hate to see them take them all or over 1 each. Poor guys make min wage or a little above it let them have ONE no matter what if they want it.
legally ebgames can not fire them for this action. its against federal law......it would be like a stock holder buying his own product and turning around and selling it...its called capitalism...damn people should watch out from being screwed
My friend sold he 360 on ebay when it first launched and he worked at Gamestop. As soon as they found out, he got canned.
actually they can. want proof? get hired, read their employee handbook. it's an agreement.
i say if u reserve it, just keep it, don't try to rip off someone who is trying to get it as a christmas gift. I worked at gamestop and i reserved stuff because i wanted it. Yes u can get fired also, its in the handbook and they stressed it on the nintendo ds launch and xbox 360 launch. Plus smart managers will even check on you to make sure your buying games like i did (i got 2 people canned for buying ds's just to sell them at rip off prices) and i felt bad but thier costing the company money and then if the system was defective and it was an employee who bought it and the person found out- good luck explaining to the boss.
hey, a job is a job. The customers bring you money and hours, if you have to resort to reserving something only to sell it for more cause you suck at your own job, then get a new one.
I worked for EB/GameStop about 2 years ago. I bought two Gamecubes for my cousin when it launched. He also camped out for it at a different location. It ended up that he was able to get from where he was and the ones I got for him were a backup option. Well since he ended up with 3 GCs, I sold two on eBay for him since he didnt have an account. Low and behold, I get a call from Loss Prevention (things were being stolen from holiday employees since I was there for 3 years and nothing was missing, until these temps were hired). Anyways, they questioned me about the GCs and told them it was for my cousin. Then they noticed that I sold games on eBay..mind you, stuff they dont even carry and the stuff I was selling was my own personal collection. Next thing you know it, I'm suspended until further notice. The DM didnt have the balls to have me come in and tell me in person or even over the phone, but instead he sends me a later. My firing was considered a "conflict of interest" since they cant prove I stole anything (which I didnt). They said that I cant sell games on eBay cuz I'm then considered a competitor. EB/GameStop can get your eBay information by contacting eBay and just say its for legal reasons or whatever. So they dont need to bid just to find out whos selling. They have ways of getting your information.
