Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) has made quite a splash by breaking sales records in the UK - not to mention a few controversies here, there and almost everywhere. Now, it's not a stretch to say that GTA IV has breathed new life to the two HD gaming consoles. But business publication Forbes wants to know: will Grand Theft Auto 4's effect on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 be enough to spell doom for the next-gen race leader, the Nintendo Wii?
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has this to say about GTA 4: "It's one of a series of good games that will each convince consumers that there is a lot of good content on the other two boxes."
The "other two boxes" being the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360. Despite having top-of-the-line graphics and a superior online experience, the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are still inferior to the Nintendo Wii as far as sales are concerned. For the past fiscal year, Nintendo had profits of 115.6%.
However, the popularity of GTA IV may have the chance to balance the next-gen equation. Nintendo is not selling the sandbox action-adventure game and Forbes notes that it's hard to recreate Grand Theft Auto 4 on the Wii given its graphics shortcomings.
Moreover, Microsoft and Sony are in a premium position to maximize the benefits it can reap from GTA 4. Microsoft has already secured exclusive online content from Rockstar Games while Sony has just won the format wars.
Now that Grand Theft Auto 4 is here to kickstart the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, will the Wii start to fade?

Like everybody should know by now, the Wii has a complete different target audience than GTA4. I mean, GTA4 is rated Mature and in some regions 18+. Most of the Wii games are Teen or don't need a rating at all.
It will help drive the sales of X360 and PS3 though.

Actually I was for peace between ISOhaven and Mister Common Sense, I slowly begin to see what he always means about you and him.
You both bash Nintendo for no reason without any proof for the nonsense you are talking about. I don't know whatever has driven you to hate Nintendo so much, but I for one have grown with Nintendo AND Sony. While I played NES, SNES and Gameboy when I was a child, I played PSone and PS2 when I was mature and I still prefer playing on Sonys console because I rather pay a bit more for good graphics and sound and atmossphere than paying for more cute and colorful games. The reason is not that I hate Nintendo like you, but I have grown out from such games. Nevertheless, this is no reason to bash Nintendo just because they concentrate on child games. With this, other children can experience the great funny games on Nintendo I played years ago. Mario is just one example.
If you don't like Mario or the Wii, simply buy a PS3 or a Xbox 360 to support your choice of games. There is no reason to make bad comments about Nintendo 'cause there a lot children out who still prefer the cute look. Just because your opinions are different from most users doesn't mean they are better. It's called free opinion, buddys.

First of all, GTA4 sucks. It's nothing but more of the same and frankly a LOT of the content is just flat out NOT entertaining. This kind of crap is getting old. I can see how people who've never played GTA or maybe only played one other one would like it. The game brings nothing new. No new aspect to keep a veteran focused and interested. Total waste of my money. Luckily I was able to resell it and I only lost $10. Now I'm going back to Gears of War on my PC. A game that truly brings a new perspective to us veterans. I'm almost done with it and I still love RUNNING....
Either way, as successful as the game is, it will do nothing to hurt the bottom line of the Wii. All it will do it boost the other two consoles. Which is awesome. Anything to boost the PS3 is ok in my book!

Because I paid for a console I expected to use, and it sits there collecting dust.
I'm keeping it just in case they come to their senses and realize that without taking hardcore gamers into account they're going to LOSE this battle.

Everyone on the PC gets MORE then the 360. All the more reason the 360 is a total waste of money. So, another new 360 is on it's way out. Are you ready to shell out ANOTHER $350? HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! !!! So what is that now? $400+$450+$450 equals $1,300 for ONE console...HILARIOUS!!!! AND....it's STILL LESS then the PS3.....OMG!!!!! You can even spend LESS on a PC that looks BETTER!!!!!
