Manhunt 2 for Wii having problems with Florida Attorney General - Image 1Ever since Manhunt 2 was announced to appear on Nintendo Wii, the title has received a lot of unnecessary bad publicity from various personalities outside the video game industry.

Among these people was Jack Thompson with his "letters of concern" regarding the impact the game might have on children. It looks like Florida is on Thompson's side on this one as Attorney General Bill McCollum was reported to express concern over the release of the title.

Quite interestingly, reports mentioned that McCollum was concerned on the Wii version alone (and not on the PS2 and PSP version) precisely because of Wii's motion-sensitive controller. As you all know, Manhunt 2 will require players to stab, club, and slash (read: kill) enemies.

With the Wiimote, players need to really perform these actions instead of simply pressing some buttons. Amidst all these, Rockstar has remained defensive and Nintendo downplays the issue by saying that Manhunt 2 is not theirs anyway.

There were various attempts to contact the Attorney General but to no avail. GamePolitics.com was able to contact, however, the official's press secretary. According to the secretary, McCollum believes that it is important to help protect children from influences which may introduce violence into their lives. The statement continued,

Attorney General Bill McCollum is concerned about any games which may instill violence in children, particularly games that encourage children to engage in violent behavior, even in simulation... [He] stresses the importance of parental involvement in the efforts to keep these influences out of our homes and away from our families.

Lastly, Fox News reporter Orlando Salinas recently had a discussion with Bill McCollum regarding the matter. The interview, according to sources, will air close to Manhunt 2's release on July 9.

I understand what the guy's trying to do. But he's trying to do the wrong thing, which is why he's failing so badly at it. He shouldnt try to stop these being made that's not going to happen, all media is violent, and even then, they'll only stop it being made in America. Nothing stopping R* making ti here in England. They already have the studios.

What he needs to be doing is making the underage sales more punishable, and more tightly watched. We all know why the age ratings are there, So I dont think anyone would have any problem with that, besides these little 12 year old kids trying to play GTA. I think I'd agree with him if that's what he was trying to do, and I dont see any reason, besides the 12 year olds thinking they're mature for blasting someones heads off, that anyone would disagree, and he would have a much easier time doing it, and would acheive a large part of his goal, to stop people being able to purchase the violent games at the times when they are most likely to be affected by such things.

Its not there job to determine if a game is to violent, it should be the parents. Plus the Wii needs a more violent game.
