Screenshots of a supposed Revolution launch title, being made by Ubisoft have surfaced on the Internet today. The photos from the May Issue of Game Informer, shows the game, called Red Steel, as a first person shooter, and do not look fake. A huge thanks to el moco for taking the photos and uploading them! If anyone who has this issue of Game Informer can support these screens, feel free to contact us or let us know in the comments!

Update 1: The first image of the Revolution controller in action? If you look closely at the third image (click to enlarge), you can see a guy holding the Revolution controller. The text says "Notice how the angle of the in game gun reflects the angle at which you hold the controller".

Update 2: According to Joystiq, Game informer will have confirmed these as actual in game screenshots, and the game is from Ubisoft Paris, the same guys that brought us Prince of Persia, Ghost Recon, Far Cry Instincts, and Splinter Cell. This information will also be available via Game Informer's website from the 20th April.

first image of the Revolution controller in action

O RLY? Remember the videos?
by - 2006-04-07 18:10:48
Which means

That the Revolution does have the key to making next gen visuals like the 360 using that bumpmapping technology where it used less polys but still made it so you could have next gen visuals.
by liquidfire0012 - 2006-04-07 19:12:14
OMG!!!! LETS TAKE OFF OUR PANTS N RUN AROUND!

Now this is what im talkin about!! The visuals look GREAT even for mag scans! OMG this is incredible news 1st REV screens are already kicking 360s ass of PDZ or COD or Q4 which is horrible...this is seriosly gona rock! everyone must get the system!
by - 2006-04-07 19:36:56
These look cool

I don't even want a revolution. The thing is that this is as good as revolution games will ever look. the 360 will just get better and better. Elder Scrolls makes this game look like wolfenstein.

ONE BIG QUESTION!!!!!!

Okay, so the credit goes to Nintendo here obviosly for their new system thats not out. But the thing that always has concerned me is the fact that this system might get a lot of ***** talk such as this "dont get this system becuz after 10 min of playing your hands r gona fall off or get tired as hell" I SWEAR TO GOD i got a feeling that this might happen...if all goes well with it, this is the only thing that might turn us all away concidering how involved this system gets you. These people in this screens n in that vid..are standing moving around etc gettin involved w/ the game..do you have any idea how that can hurt the company if people start realizing that they are lazy and their hands get tired from holding them up for a while? you play a regular controller..sitted down, thumbs at work..noone complains about that...but now your putting people in a position that involves them moving around thats not good news...not even mentioning the fact that they want to try to get the old geezers playing this...how the hell do they expect old people playing this ***** if they cant even hold up a dollar in their hands.....thats my opinion...i can be very wrong but i can be certain to expect this
by darksquirrel - 2006-04-07 20:06:55
umm

the graphics look nice but, the game mechanics look arcady and light gun esque....and i kind of hate those games...i thought the rev was about gameplay?
by - 2006-04-07 20:10:01
Shut up graphic fan boys.

Who gives a flying fug nugget that the graphics arent up to par with 360 or PS3...Nintendo has clarified over and over again that they are not competing with those two "next-gen" consoles, this is new territory. I wasnt expecting anything to be nearly as cool looking as this. This is the kind of stuff I have been dreaming for forever. This is a HUGE step, lets just hope its as good as it looks and that they keep up with the games and dont end up fumbling the ball like they did with Gamecube.
by GoShigeru - 2006-04-07 21:24:01
I love it

These are amaing enough for me. Expecially since it's all in such a little box.

Those graphics are horrible! When will devs learn that all these fancy effects make games look worse?

it's not about graphics its about gameplay.

Ok liquidfire....this particular game isnt aimed for the old geezers...This game is to catch the "mainstream" gamers. Nintendo are going to release games like Brain Age, and Warioware, both games that will catch the attention of young and OLD. These shots of the game were alot more than what i was expecting of the revolution. As someone was saying earlier about this game looking arcade like....yeah...it does feel like a light gun game, but Nintendo is now bringing all this into your home. I believe the first gen rev games will be just to show off the rev control. 2nd gen games will then have the REAL games with story, gameplay, and innovation. Atleast Sony has a peripheral that can somewhat compete with the revolution (eyetoy). Xbox dont got nothing on the Rev.

Man why are people always so obsessed with graphics all the time, its pretty pointless because people who have played the first super mario bros. on the NES would know that its all about gameplay, not graphics.
by - 2006-04-08 08:29:14
Xbox 360 got nothing!?

I really looking forward to Rev! But when it's a load of bull**** to say that the xbox got nothing like rev controller og eye toy! The will release their camera, that has gesture recognition - som you would be able to interact, and that is 3D not 2D like eye toy!
by - 2006-04-08 10:11:27
like i have say ;)

nintendo dont need horse power to make good games and console ;) and its look like x360 with no hd resolution ! great job

This will rule!

Details (GI used the latest controller and more): -Game development started shortly after E3 2005. Ubisoft saw and demoed the controller before E3 2005. -Ubisoft Paris took their idea directly to Iwata and Miyamoto, and were given the go ahead. After that meeting they were given prototype controllers. The article states that Ubisoft worked "closely" with Nintendo's engineers in Japan on the title -Game Informer mentions that while conducting the interviews with Ubisoft, they were handed the "latest version" of the controller -During the beginning of the game, you are encouraged to use your weapons ruthlessly, but as the game progresses you become more proficient and strategic. This gameplay idea led Ubisoft to decide to give the game a martial arts setting. "Enter the Yakuza" -The first third of the game will be all about being "brutal by necessity" -You will be less precise and favor more devastating weapons (machine guns) -As you progress and become more precise, smaller guns will be used -"The goal...is to use five bullets to kill five enemies" -"When fighting with this level of skill, the music and sound effects will reflect it, remaining calm and peaceful" -"When you fight brutally, the sounds around you grow increasingly more intense" -"Audio feedback" -Freeze shot: by fighting effciently you fill the Freeze Shot gauge...fighting chaotically causes to decreases -When the gauge is filled you can hit a button to momentarily stop time, and then target specific locations on enemy bodies -Headshots thus are tempting, but non lethal shots, such as shooting guns out of enemy hand, can be more beneficial -By defeating high ranking leaders who command others and sparing their lives, you will be rewarded. He will offer you respect and help (guns, help, new weapons, alternate paths, etc) -Respect plays a MAJOR part in the game Multiplayer: -Split screen multiplayer with traditional deathmatches -Totally original multiplayer modes Ubisoft is not revealing yet. Wait until E3 -They didn't talk about Nintendo Wi Fi (NDAs). Full details haven't been revealed yet -Revolution works by placing a small sensor bar either above or below any TV -You can stand at any angle and not lose any accuracy. You can even take your controller to a friend's house and instantly start playing without syncing up the controller -"Perhaps most impressive is the fact that although splitscreen reduces the amount of onscreen space you are playing in, you don't have to make smaller movements - you can gesture as wildly as you want, and it won't interfere with the other player's onscreen quadrants Game Informer's hands on: -The two triggers on the front of the analog unit activate ducking and jumping. The analog stick controls movement, and the revmote controls aiming. No rails. -Level consisted of shooting ranges that popped out from behind cover "Aiming with the controller is as simple as using a laser pointer. You point your hand at a target and hit the trigger on the underside of the controller to fire -"Unlike other FPS games, which tie the camera and aiming together, Red Steel's camera follows your aim with a slight delay. If, for example, you point to the edge of the screen, the camera will turn to re-center on your view after a second. With the sensitivity of the controller, a standard FPS control would move too much, potentially making the player feel ill -"Thanks to the improved reaction that the controller offers, the team can create gunfight scenerios that would be extraordinarily diffilcult with a standard controller" -Most console FPS games limit their enemies to horizontal planes to prevent player frustration, but targets on a verticle plane are just as easy to hit with the Revolution controller -You can aim at a target as quickly as you can move your hand -In the demo targets popped up on rooftops and in second story windows, as well as behind cover points on the ground, and all were equally easy to hit -While you can quickly shoot enemies anywhere on screen, Red Steel

A little bit of graphics math

Nintendo stated that they aren't pushing HD, unlike the other two companies. Now, normal TVs usually display in 480i, where true HD is either 1080i or 1080p. So a 1080i resolution has a 1920x1080 pixels and a 480i resolution is 640x480 pixels. So for HD resolution the processors and graphics cards need to process 2073600 square pixels, but for regular resolution they only need to process 307200 square pixels. Hence, supporting HD requires at least 6.75 times more processing power. So the XBox 360 has a 3-core processor, so it clocks in at a total of 3.2 GHz. The Revolution is supposedly running at 729MHz. This means the 360 is 4.39 times faster, processor-wise. But if you take into account that the system is processing HD content, but is only displaying on a standard definition TV, that means the XBox is 0.65 times as powerful as the Revolution, processor-wise, if they are both running on a standard TV. So, there is no reason why the Revolution shouldn't operate/look as good if not better than the 360, on a standard TV. Just a little simple math to shut the mouths of all the Revolution nay-sayers.

hd res error

1080i is 1920x540i I meaning interlaced 1080p is 1920x1080

nintendo has make a great mistake with this with the virtual boy i dont think the will repeat the seme mistake. if the controler weight is like a lightgun i dont see any probs. i have play with my guncon at time crisis for hour or in arcades games and i wasnt tired. i think nintendo know what they do. hey if you are tired with a guncon i dont know what you are :p

reminds me of a 360 launch title

The momment i saw those screen it instantly reminded me of condemned. The graphics seem to give the same kind off glow as they rely heavily on aa and lighting. Even the gameplay reminds me of condemned as red steel apparently isnt just an fps its more of a first person action. The respect twist sounds pretty awesome too. And btw the fancy affects like aa and hdr i like quite a bit.

halo series is overated

I don't get why people dis the revolution. I mean graphics are overated. If graphics is all that matters why are you playing video games. I mean if thats all thats matters it should be just as fun hiking or something because no graphics can look as good as real life so if you disagree there has to be some other element to games that are just as important to you. I also like the fact that this will change gaming forever and that is a good thing because games today are getting somewhat old and the so called greatest games fail in comparisone to this game just because of the uniqueness of this shooter. Like the halo series i mean people say its so much better than other shooters but its not it's nothing different from other shooters besides the graphics. I mean personally i think this game could be better than it (yea thats right suck it halo fans) because it brings a knew element to the genre. I mean its like a sports game would you drother be on the sidelines(like games today) or would you drother be part of the action(like this game offers). Personally i'd drother be in it.

rev is gonna rock

look ive havnt played the rev but ive played the 360 and the game i played was oblivion and that rocks "gameplay wise". the reason rev is gonna be great isbecause its completely changed the gameplay for games! as for the ps3 i reacon its not gonna do so well.(boomarang controls! phht please) and for those people that think the screens look like paintings is because its A PICTURE OF THE SCREENSHOTS PRINTED IN A MAGAZINE!!!WHY DO YOU THINK ITS GOT THAT GLOSSY LOOK!!!. i rest my case
by - 2006-04-12 03:58:57
oh i just forgot!

the guy who hates halo... the reason halo is so popular is because its a fun multiplayergame! most people thinks the single player is okay. im still looking forward to see whats in halo3

To all fan

I'm working at an Eb Games in Canada and after listening comment of people who are sure they know all about the PS3 and the Xbox360, but nothing about the Revolution, it just give me the desir to roll on the floor and laugh. Sorry to the fanboys of all consoles, but sometimes you must admits that the only things to do is to says nothing. Now lets the fun begin !!!! I hate all the people who call themself Hardcore Gamer. Why ? It's easy, generally they are not. What is a hardcore gamer ? A guy who love playing video game, who is stuck on one console and prefer the " beauty " of the graphics ? NO. That it was we can call a casual gamer. An hardcore is a gamer who play video games because it's a passion, who like to try something new or something else, who will not bow to a company and throw insult to an other game because it's a game of an other console, he will try it, play it. He is open to new concept and old games. He prefer playing a game then watching the graphics of the game. Yes the graphics are important, but it's not the most important, the gameplay is. It help to render the game more immersive, sometime the gameplay gave to the gamer a more immersive experience than the graphics. So if you think that graphics are the most important feature of a game, so be it, go watch the next Disney Pixar movie !!!! This is why people must not critic a game like Red Steel or even the Revolution before trying it. I'm sure of it, that for now, any FPS on the Revolution will be an Halo Killer, and i don't even understand why people are so excited about Halo, a FPS like all the other, Ah and for the post 46, if its only for the multiplayer game I know many FPS who have better multiplayer support. And this is a personal message about the specs of the Revolution. Did any of the Sony and microsoft fan boys have played Resident Evil 4 on the gamecube ? a game who pumped alomost all the energy of the little box. It's for sure the best looking game i ever seen, even with the game of the 360. for now the Rev is more than two time more powerful than the GC, it's enough for the nex-gen. Take RE 4 and imagine this game visually two time better and you have a something mroe interesting than what you can found on the so called next-gen. The advantage of the specs of the console, si that it's an expansion of the specs of the gamecube, that give to devellopers a kit very similar to the one they had worked with for almost 5 years. So it's getting very easy to create something beautiful and really fast, because you know it worked. And for the people who think that the visual of the Rev will be outdated in two years, your are wrong. Why ? because the visual of the 360 and the PS3 will arrive at a limit in two years aproximately, because the only changement in the graphics will be on little details that we can see with our eyes. Take a game like Oblivion and ask you that question, how can they make better graphics ? Thats why the specs are not important because those of Sony and Microsoft are exagerated, because will never use the half of their in the next five years. And for the HD, put it in your @#%$, the only use of the HD in the generation is to give good graphics, sorry better colour, on the graphics. So it's not important if the graphics of my game are scrap, because with the HD they are good. Why do you think you can only found a 360 in demo in a shop with a samsung HD ? For myself, i think a console who can make graphics like the one of the 360, without HD is a better console. You might not agree with me, but it's a reality. Finally, i have something to tell to the fan boys of microsoft, don't says that Halo 3 will be better than a game like Red Steel, because you aren't sure that Halo 3 is in devellopement and if Red Steel give us what we expect, the two analog control will be outdated. I'm not a Nintendo fan boy, but i'm an hardcore gamer who play because it's my passion and i will own the Rev because I love the concept and the Virtual Console, i will surely buy the PS3 and the 360, because there are

painted

i would like to mention that those are 'painted' they are not actual screenshots, but they ARE made to reflect the actual graphics. and to those people sayn that it will be tiring 1. youre a lazyass, its a plastic tiny remote, you wont get that tired. 2. who said you had to stand up and jump around to play the game? you can sit down, elbows in lap, and play the game very similarilly to the way you would play with a normal controller. it will be very sensitive so you can controll it simply by moving your wrist. lazyass. for those of us with a standard res tv, the rev graphics will be the same as the ps3 or 360, perhaps even better since that is what it is geared toward. i find it amazing when people are amazed at these graphics, have you seen RE4? now the rev is how much more powerful than the GC? now imagine that times RE4. cool huh? i agree halo isnt that great, and ive played all of them. what i believe is the reason for its popularity is xbox live. and sony is shooting themselves in the foot forcing developers to make high res graphics. at 37 - in what way, that its a fps? its controlled by a wand man! A WAND!

Friggin Cheese Nerds

Once again, this system is about innovation and new gameplay. I would love a game with graphics like super mario bros. where you could flick mario up and about with the controller alot more than a game that has ultra-realistic graphics but just isn't fun.
by - 2006-04-17 16:52:59
hope it's not a complete gimmick

ok sure playing a few games with the new controller will be fun for a while. but i hope everygame isn't designed with the controller in mind, because then the game might be lost. I mean with the DS the touchscreen function was cool for a bit. but nearly all games can be played without it, and in my oppinion for the better. take some games like ridge racer for the ds with absolute HORRIBLE gaming because of trying to integrate the feature of the console. I hope the revolution doesn't do this cos i'm looking forward to it. like it or not this will do better in japan than anywhere else and do well even if the graphics are not as good.

Hmm...

Looks impressive, but doubt it will look as good as those SS's show. As it has always been that way with every new console coming to the market. As many old time gamers have learned, SS's don't make the game or gives it any justice. Nintendo will need much more than good looking games to keep up with both Sony & Microsoft this gen. There position is like your local Deli vs Quiznos & Subways. With Sony & Microsoft buying off so many exclusive rights to titles & complete studios, they'll need as much support as they can get. I am a long time Nintendo Gamer myself. I own just about all of there systems. With the exception of the GameCube & Virtual Boy. GC was good, but was much more satsified with an PS2 for that gen. I do believe this is there last run in the home console market. There handhelds are great & is what has been keeping them around for this long. So I don't mind if they continue with that. Time will tell though. The rev may end up being a great sub system to have around with either your PS3 or Xbox 360.

11. ยป These look cool I don't even want a revolution. The thing is that this is as good as revolution games will ever look. the 360 will just get better and better. Elder Scrolls makes this game look like wolfenstein. by Anonymous Coward, at Apr 07, 2006 at 07:36PM Geez, I honestly play more PS1 games than PS2. I can say my favorite game's graphics were almost absolute crap. (star ocean 2, suikoden 2 behind that) Looking at how some of these new games SUCK but have great graphics, I hate when people say "I'm not going to get this cuz teh graffix is teh Sux0rz". If anything, the best games I have ever played have had BAD graphics. The only game in my top 5 list with good graphics is Skies of Arcadia, and those weren't even anything to write home about. Graphics do not make the game, nor the system, people. I would rather have sony or nintendo release a system with a 16 bit proscessor and good games again
